You should not be buying a puppy from a pet store. The main reason being that you will be contributing to the horrible way puppy shops work. Most people go to a puppy shop and don't really understand where the dogs have come from. There are hundreds of puppy farms out there where the mother is force to have litter after litter and kept in a small cage next to hundred of other pregnant dogs. They often don't have any human contact what so ever and suffer from a lot of health problems. I work in a veterinary hospital and see this all the time with in breeding and also the sick mothers that have to be put down at such a young age because they are simply not wanted because they can't reproduce.

Please don't add to this crawl profitable business. If you love animals and are against animal cruelty you will look in your local paper and find a breeder who has "home raised" puppies. These puppies will also be about 1/4 of the price and will have come from a better background with better breeding.

As you can see I am very passionate about this subject so please do a little research before buying.

DO NOT!! pet stores get their puppies from something called a puppy mill. Basically these horrid people take dogs and breed them continiously..they lived in discusting conditions and are almost always sick. the parents can't even move. by buying one of these from a pet store a. you are helping fund puppy mills and b. you are setting youself up to spend potentinally thousands of dollars on what is most alwats an ill dog that may die in the end. I'm a vet tech and i can;t even tell you how many dogs we get in from petstores that are infested with heatworms, fleas, liver damage, you name it. Alot don't live. It's a sad situation. Your best bet would be to find a local shelter or go to petfinder.com .... please don't buy a dog from a petstore..u are helping to kill dogs...no respecting breeder will EVER sell a dog to a pet store...if u want more info please do a search online for puppy mills.

This is a joke, right? Check out almost any mall in America. But a better idea would be: "Don't buy while pound puppies die!" Don't encourage people to breed by rewarding them with money. There are millions of good, healthy dogs being put to death every day due to a lack of homes for them all. For example, in my county alone the four pounds receive approx. 33 dogs daily. That's a total of 132 dogs coming in EVERY DAY. They don't have enough cages and room for all of them so they are euthanizing them almost as fast as they come in, otherwise they'd be hip-deep in them! Only a very, very few lucky ones find homes.

So think about adopting from a humane society or pet rescue organization.

PLEASE! Don't purchase a puppy or dog from a pet store!! Retail pet shops habitually buy puppies and dogs from over breeders for a fraction of the cost of what they charge you. Over-breeders typically breed their dogs as often as they can and in the most gross situations. They may breed several different types, and the animals are usually found by authorities to be in poor health and horrible conditions. These animals usually come from poor, unhealthy bloodlines and typically are very sickly. I encourage you to look at local rescue shelters that have a 'no kill' policy. These places take in litters and older animals who have been abandoned or are no longer wanted by their owners. They receive all necessary shots and are spayed/neutered and almost always come with a health guarantee. If you are wanting a 'purebred' breed check with private owners advertising at the vet's office or with specific humane societies. Check them out - go out and look at their kennel - be comfortable with them - play with the dog of your choice. Get vet records - a reputable breeder will be happy to offer them. Good luck.

NEVER BUY PUPS FROM A PET STORE! NEVER! These pups come from puppy mills, are unhealthy, have genetic defects, have not been socialized so they will have many behaioral problems. Lots of puppies from pet stores die within a week after purchase. The puppies are very expensive. You pay maybe $1,000 or more for a pup and within a week or 2, you either have a dead puppy or one that you have spent thousands of dollars on for vet bills.

NEVER EVER BUY A PUPPY FROM A PETSTORE because they come from puppymils! Try your local SPCA, animal shelter, or pound for an inexpensive, loving pet.

Pet store puppies are a crazy rip-off. They are also harder to house-train, because they have always been forced to live and defecate in the same small space. Adopt a shelter pet!

Do not buy puppies from a pet store. Puppies sold in these places are produced by irresponsible breeders and price wise they are often higher then one bought from a responsible breeder.
