YES, There is tons of things we can do!!! ARE YOU THAT 15 YR BOY??
1. Awareness, tell everyone to stop and lesson.
2. Give money to the shelters so they can stop killing.
3. Go to Reilly's and speak your mind!
4. Get a partition and have it in all the pet stores that said you must have your animals fixed.
5. Try to make a law that said that a breeder should do a list of things, be for they are to breed. also they should be made to have house call check ups from the ASPCA!
6. You can get you mother and go do like car washes and fun risers and give the money to ASPCA.
This is what we should all do!

I use to work in a pet store that sold puppies and I saw SOOO many people come in a impulse buy a puppy!! Mostly cuz the "puppy" was cute and/or their child wanted it!! Most of these pups ended up in the pound i bet cuz people always think that having a puppy is easy and they will do what good dogs do without training or work. (i.e. peeing Outside, not chewing on furniture)
Dogs in the pounds usually have problems, mostly from people abandoning them, and having to live in cramped kennels. Also when people DO adopt from the pounds they always go for the "CUTE" ones and the "ugly" ones are the ones that get put down. Usually the ugly ones are the ones with more personality and a better temper.
There is not much we can do sadly, except make everyone you know aware of how bad it is in the pounds and to spay and neuter our pets.
Nearly 15,000 animals are put down a DAY all over the country in the pounds. Even "no-kill" shelters find places to take the animals after their 3 day - one week stay.
Support the local pounds by donating your time or money. Most will take other things like dog found cleaning supplies, etc.

There are several reasons.
People don't understand the responsibility it takes to own a pet. They find it annoying and expensive. So they dump it off at the shelter.
People move to a pet-free apartment that doesn't allow the dog, or they just don't have any time for it..... so they dump it off at the shelter.
People don't research the breeds they are buying/adopting, and find that it doesn't match their lifestyle after all, so they dump it off at the shelter.
People don't seem to realize that those cute little puppies grow up to be dogs, that will chew, bark, dig and do other obviously dog behavior. They can't handle it, so dump it off at the shelter.
People decided to breed their dog simply because "puppies are cute!". When they can't find homes for these cute puppies, they dump them off at the shelter.
People don't spay or neuter their dogs, then allow them to roam their neighborhood...and surprise, the female has puppies... so, they dump them off at the shelter.
This is why there are so many dogs at the shelter. The best way to reduce the number is a state and city supported spay and neuter programs that are designed to encourage dog owners to get their dog fixed. Of course this won't stop people from dumping unwanted dogs at shelters, but it will help.

we can do tons more---
we can advocate for free spay/neuter clinics (or we can fix our pets at the very least)
we can be sure to do our research BEFORE buying a dog (alot of dogs in shelters are there because people didn't do the research on the right breed or because they didn't take the time to train the dog properly and when the dog got older it had behavioral problems which lead to it being abandoned)
we can volunteer our time and money to shelters so that they can worry less about caring for the dog and more about finding the dog a good home
we can take it upon ourselves to find our dogs good homes when we have to give them up....remember that if you put your dog in a shelter and they can't find him/her a good home then they'll put him to sleep...you on the other hand can devote more time and energy because you don't have to worry about 30 dogs finding good homes-only one
we can adopt a dog instead of buying from pet stores and backyard breeders!
we can spread the word on all of these tips and hope that more people will listen and take our advice because no one person can fix this problem but together knowledge is power and if we all start to care then together we can change the world
(that's my positive thought for the day)

Sure we can. If you're a breeder, breed responsibly and check out potential homes for your dogs and puppies zealously to be sure this family is ready, and right, for your dog.
Donate to, or volunteer for, animal care charities like the Humane Society and ASPCA. If money's an issue, volunteer to help at fundraising events.
Help spread the word that not every dog is right for every person - just as not every person you meet is the right one to marry.
Spay or neuter your dog! Every puppy your dog produces will be the father or mother of many more unless spayed or neutered.
Train your dog, and encourage other dog owners you meet to train their dogs. Most dogs end up in shelters because they aren't trained and don't instinctively know, for example, that the old sneaker given as a chew toy can be chewed while the expensive dress shoe in the closet is off limits.

The reason is because
1. People do not spay their dogs and then the millions of unwanted pups end up in shelters
2. Breeders are producing these new designer breeds that most everyone would rather have than a little pound puppy.
I personally have a few pound dogs and I love them....they are the greatest dogs I have ever owned.
What can we do? We need to make it a law for people to spay and neuter their pets....also shelters need more funding to be able to hold more dogs w/out euthanizing them. Hope this helps...ADOPT!!!

One of the big reasons I've heard for so many abandoned animals is because landlords aren't allowing them. Read any newspaper under rentals/condos/leasing and all of them say No Pets. I live in sub-standard housing and would love to get out to a better place but I've had my dog for 12 years and I'm not giving her to a shelter. I feel for the people who have to move (transfers, eviction, better schools) and can't take the dog.

Unfortunately too many people feel a need to breed every dog they own.
Breeding needs to be left to responsible breeders who are truly putting effort into the breed they are working with.

The answer for this is because people don't research dog breeds before they get a dog and when they get it, the dog is way to much for someone to handle.
