The type of doctor that U will need depends on the problem that U wld like to address. There are diseases affecting the skeletal-muscular system that only requires medical management like myalgias (muscular pains), arthritis (joint problems), weakness (muscle condition) , osteoporosis, etc. Others require surgical interventions like bone deformities, fractures, ligament tears, etc.

So if U need mere medical attention or some therapist, go see a neurologist or rheumatologists or chiropractor, physical therapist. If U need a surgical intervention to correct ur problem, an orthopedic surgeon is best.

Usually, a medical treatment is sought first and tried for few weeks and then U may be referred to a surgeon unless the cause is an injury that obviously requires immediate surgery and so direct care of an orthopedic surgeon is required.

Yes, an orthopedic surgeon. However, if these are inherited skeletal abnormalities, a clinical geneticist could be consulted. Before they became plentiful, we pediatricians often got into the act. If skeletal abnormalities are noticed on a prenatal ultrasound, a perinatologist might be consulted.
