I'm asking because I am a youth sponsor for a youth group and we are welcoming the new 6th graders into our group. So I was looking for some sort of Initiation or Rite of Passage or something along those lines.

Maybe you can have someone turn the lights out from the circuit breakers right after you say something in a discussion about "Well if that were true, God would just shut out the lights on all of us!" You could plan the discussion with one of the older members to say a certain 'smart' remark (mild in nature of course) and have someone else at the ready on the switch (maybe a parent)... that would be funny :-)

Then the lights come back on and you could have a first discussion on forgiveness :-)

Have all the 6th graders line up and play a game where they stick a funnel in their pants and have them all try to roll a quarter off their foreheads and into the funnel. Say that the first kid to successfully get their quarter into their funnel would win some sort of prize. So when they start playing and they're all concentrating on getting the quarter in their funnel, have someone sneak behind each person and poor water down the funnel. Once they all realize they've been duped and they feel pretty embarrassed, have all the other kids poor water down their pants too. Now that all the students have wet pants, it'll build a sense of unity between all the kids, and they'll all feel like they're in the same boat; and now with all the kids having wet pants and feeling kinda silly, hopefully they'll all be able to kinda open up and have a good laugh about the whole ordeal.

Are there lockers anywhere you could get cheap rubber caulking (the kind you can easily scrape off) and glue them up.
or have them walk into the youth group room on their first night and have it empty lights off chairs up like no one had been in there then after they wait a little while walk in not dress for group and go oh yeah we heard you were joining us and decided to cancel.
