The same as these verses --
"But their idols are silver and gold,
made by the hands of men.
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but they cannot see;
they have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but they cannot smell;
they have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but they cannot walk;
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.
Psalm 115:4-8

Basically, in simple terms, it means
8 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
In other words, dont go having any other Gods.

New King James Version:
'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
Do not make, then pray to, any carved image (idol).

I think the answer to your question is best expanded upon in Chapter 1 of Romans (esp. vv.22-25).
Now worshiping the created rather than the Creator, can come in many different forms. In general we divide them between hard idolatry (actually bowing down before & worshiping statues & icons, animals the like) & soft idolatry (e.g. worshiping ideas of men like in pantheism, Evolution, outward unity; human ancestry; love of money; etc. etc.), but both are equally as wrong & take our eyes off of the Author & Perfector of our faith Jesus Christ.
Paul also talks to Greeks in Athens about this subject in Acts 17:16-34.
Hope that helps.

It is in particular speaking of when the Hebrews formed the calf and worshipped it while Moses was gone on the mountain to receive God's commandments.
In biblical times, the "gods" of the day were represented by animals, or half-man, half-animal beasts. God is telling us that we are not to make, or serve, such idols.
I believe in a more modern sense, it also means not to form statues of "saints" or whomever, and bow down or pray to them.
Other religions also have little statues, or dolls or figures, that represent their "deities". God is saying, don't do this.

I would think that means nothing is to be held above him.That means nothing that walks,talks,flies,sits,crawls,slithers,swims.etc. nothing,in the air or in the sea. Nothing is to be worshiped but him.The one and only true God.This could be in the form of money, this could be in the form of another person,say a spouse or child or parent.A thing.A object that one loves or puts before him. I think that is what is being talked about also.

It refers to making an object for the purpose of worshiping the object as if it were a representation of a god or God. It doesn't mean that you can't carve out a statue, that is, as long as the statue is not supposed to be some representation of a deity.

The verse means that you shouldn't create any heavenly images whether it be by carving it into stone, drawing it on paper, molding it in clay etc. so as not to create an idol to worship

It means that the biblical god wants to remain a mystery because if u saw his true form, u will see he's just like u. Grven images of gods can be found in almost every culture and most are human.

Things like tattoos, jewelry, (avatars?) etc.. Those are "graven images". They are considered as IDOLATRY!! it's against the Ten Commandments.
......but since the Ten Commandments are in the Old Testament, and we are living by the New Testament, it doesn't really matter, does it?
