Does this mean that while the church is here in the world the end can't come until the gospel of the grace of God is preached world-wide? Jesus is answering the question about a sign of the end of the age, and maybe not promoting sending the gospel to the ends of the earth. I am a little confused.

The end shall come when, and only when, the gospel has been preached in all the world. The term "the end" refers to both the end of Jerusalem and the end of the world. As Scripture states, the gospel had been preached to all the known world right before the fall of Jerusalem (Romans 10:18; Col. 1:6, 23), and shall be preached to the uttermost part of the earth before the end time (Acts 1:8; cp. Matthew 28:19-20).

However, something needs to be noted that is sometimes overlooked. Christ does not say the gospel shall convert the world, but rather the gospel shall be preached to the world before the end comes. All the world will not respond to the gospel. but all the world shall hear the gospel. Christ does, however, give some indication of the results to expect from preaching the gospel.

Jesus will be preached in every nation.
Then sometime after the world will end.
Jesus will then return:
Rev 18-22
1 & 2 Thes
Job 19
2 Peter
Matt 24-25

Not promoting sending the gospel to the ends of the earth?
Read a few more verses.

Matthew 28:19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

This section of Yahoo proves the gospel is being preached to all the world.

IMO this is happening, in part, now. The wars and rumors of wars certainly are obvious. Remember, HE was talking to Jewish people here. HE told them that they would be handed over to be tortured and put to death and hated by all nations because of HIS name. This is certainly happening now.
I believe that the restrainer is the Church and that it will have to be taken out of the way before the anti-christ can be revealed. Notice it does not say that the Gospel will be preached to all people but rather to all nations.
I do not believe that anything else needs to happen before the Rapture or Catching Away occurs.
