Has this computer ever worked?
Have you installed new hardware, that may have caused the crash? If so remove the new hardware.

Ok, back to square one:
Insert the xp cd in the cdrom.
Restart the computer.
At the POST screen hit Del (or whatever your computer requires to get into BIOS Setup).
Set the boot sequence to CDROM as first boot device, Hard drive second Boot device.
Save and Exit BIOS.
Restart the computer.
The system should Offer to boot from the CDROM.
Run Setup, Format and Install a new copy of windows.

For future reference: In some instances NTLDR and other windows boot problems can be fixed without having to reformat and reinstall.

Good Luck

It seems the cure to your woes is a new operating system.
On a new disc, with a license.
You can purchase retail or OEM, either one will work.

Load a new copy of the operating system of your choosing, and purchasing, on the computer and update it.
It will guide you thru formatting in NTFS during set-up

Your problems will most likely disappear.

Based on what you assert. It's rough to determine what the hindrance is. You didn't say whether or not you're utilizing High velocity or dial or wi-fi. If you're utilizing a wi-fi web, it would be sign barrier hindrance. If you're utilizing High velocity, it would be spyware and adware hindrance, if dial up, would be bandwidth hindrance. If you had been utilizing you pc adequate earlier than. I do not believe it is pc hindrance. Modem energy surge hindrance may be viable.

Most likely your BIOS is not set to boot from the CDROM first.
