I think antitheists are not real atheists because they are obsessed with God

Agreed. Atheists have made a judgement call on what they see as facts and simply don't believe. They don't have an axe to grind. Antitheists are emotionally involved and altogether less rational about it. They hate God, so they believe there's something to hate. But many would label themselves atheist, I think.

Zero beat me to it. That infidel must've taken latin in high school. :-P

atheist - not theist (aka godless, or simply mypublicident ;-)
antitheist - against gods

I guess I can pretty much say anything now, since ZeroCool nailed it... So here's a joke for ya:

A Hippy painter is loosing his eyesight and sees an eye doctor. The doctor says that he can restore his sight. The doctor performs the surgery and lo and behold. A week later the Hippy can see perfectly. The hippy is so elated that he returns and paints a huge eye on the wall in the doctors office. When the doctor comes in he is shocked. The hippy says "hey man, how do you like my painting?" The doctor replies "I'm glad I didn't become a gynocologist!"

From what I have heard/read in news, books and podcasts, antitheists are now considered as a subset of atheists; those who, besides lacking a belief of any deity, oppose *strongly* any form of belief in god or gods, even when such belief is presented as *good* or *harmless*

athiests deny the existence of a god. Antitheists (by definition) believe in the existence of a god, but are opposed to it.

somewhere similar, but non-living things, plants, and animals can be classified as atheist but they can't be anti-theist. Someone could be both(atheist AND anti-theist), but the basic notions based on definition implies that they are different.

The "a" in atheist is a prefix meaning - devoid of. The "anti" in anti theist is a prefix meaning - against. So, an Atheist would not have faith interior the God that the anti theist hates the suggestions of.

An atheist just lacks belief in gods.

An anti-theist opposes either belief in gods or those who adhere to a belief in gods.

And one isn't necessarily going to be the other. Some anti-theists are atheists and some atheists are anti-theists but they don't always go hand in hand.

As an atheist perceiving the danger and downright evil of superstition, I'm against theism and all forms of woo.
