I think it's the most fun of all the engineering disciplines. It's incredibly versatile too, you can wind up doing almost anything after you graduate. I don't know what the previous poster is talking about when he says moderate pay, last I saw it was the highest paying undergraduate degree you could get. But it is a lot of work, and definitely not suited for everybody. If you enjoy chemistry, math, and building things then definitely go for it.

I concur with the folks that indicate it is a tough discipline. Having survived undergrad and grad school, it was a lot of work. But, it was rewarding and I'm happy I did it.

As for the pay, firstly I don't think that should be the deciding factor. Any engineering job will give "sufficient" pay, so if engineering is your thing, pick whichever branch is most interesting for you.

If you choose any engineering and chemical to be sure, prepare to have little social life in college outside of your engineering circle. That having been said, be sure to form a circle of people in your same class to study with. It's a very important aspect to surviving and also teaches one real-world skill that all engineers need: working in groups. Engineering in the real world is all about group projects, so work the bugs out in college where it won't get you fired. ;) But, about the social life thing, you'll find that your non-engineering roommate will be partying till 2 AM while you study. You'll just have to live with it, because if you become tempted and join the partying, you're probably hosed. Also, avoid dating a non-engineer. They don't understand why you have no time to go do fun stuff with them.

Chemical engineering would be career, but obviously you have to love chemistry, and if you do then it will be the perfect career for you.

There is the possibility of working on a huge range of specialisms from working for an oil company to working for a condom factory.

And I would second the idea that it is a highly paid career. Any profession that involves a high level of scientific knowledge is well paid because of the huge demand.
