Use the medium sized home depot or u-haul boxes (about 2 by 2 feet). Then, transport them to the local UPS (old mailbox, etc) store. Mail them to your destination. It'll cost you between $7 and $20 a box depending on how much you stuff in it.
You can also bring the boxes to the airport with you. However, they'll charge you for extra bags. It depends upon the airline as to the price. I believe the I saw a price of $20 at Continental last week.

How are you getting from NJ to Atlanta? That is the way your clothes should travel. Get a luggage carrier from walmart that is big enough to fit both of your large suitcases. I travel like this all the time. I carried 3 large suitcases for 6 blocks once with a luggage carrier. If Walmart doesn't have the size you need, a local luggage store will.

Is there anyone already in Atlanta that you can ship them too? When my daughter moved from Florida last January, she shipped all her non-essential things FedEx Ground. She sent 2 med size moving boxes and it cost about $30 to go cross country. I've used UPS ground in the past and it works well too. You don't want to use the post office because there's no way to track your packages.
The draw back - it can take a couple of weeks to arrive depending on where it's going.

UPS or Fedex may be an option. Also, Think! What will it cost to ship and what will it cost to just buy new clothes when you get there? May sell what you can in a yard sell and use the money plus what you save to get more. This about all I know.

I think you can pay additional fees and have up to 5 suitcases. The additional fees are WAY cheeaper than sending UPS or mail. Check the web site for your airline.

I worked with a guy who moved from Seattle to CT and shipped everything he owned (including clothes) in cardboard boxes via UPS. It was the cheapest relocation we ever had to pay for!

hmm... well, i guess you could just put the clothes in more suitcases, so that they're not as heavy, but that can cost money... sorry, i hope you find a good way!

How much does it all weigh? It might make more sense just to ship via USPS or FedEx, etc.
