what is this sp1 and sp2 all about?

i just got done asking about vista os for a computer and the guys said something about waiting till sp1 or sp2. what is this?

"SP" refers to "Service Pack." It's basically a bunch of updates that fix bugs. "SP"'s specifically are Windows-only, but Macs have these kinds of updates too.

Waiting for an SP to come out is a smart move, because if you don't wait you could run into a lot of problems and bugs in the computer.
