She will get over it in time, she's just missing them. They have only just been re homed so she may feel they have just wondered off.

You could give her a couple of small soft toys. Make sure they are baby safe as eventually she may rip them up but if you put them in her basket/box this might comfort her. Make sure they have your smell on them otherwise she won't know what they are.

Rub them in your hands or sleep with them in your bed for a night to put your scent on them.

The main thing, although it may be distressing for you, is to be patient with her and as you said, give her lots of affection.

Honestly, it depends on the cat and on how young the kittens are when they're separated. However, in a day or two it will start getting better and in a week or two she should be back to herself. Of course, it will be worse immediately after the kittens are given away, because she'll be looking for them. Little by little she will get the idea that they are gone and her memory of them will fade. Also, her body is telling her that something is wrong, since she has milk and no-one drinking it. As her milk dries up (and it will) that discomfort will go away, too.

You are doing the right thing. Unfortunately, having the kittens all gone at once is difficult. Just try to love her and distract her as best you can, hold her paw so to speak.

She should get over it eventually, but it may take a while. It really depends on the cat. Some cats won't even notice and some will go looking for them and crying everywhere for what seems like ages.

Yeah, but I guess it's sort of like sending your kids to college knowing that they'll never come back. You'd get over that eventually, but naturally you'd cry.

Poor kitty. Just keep in mind that you did the right thing sending her kittens off. If you didn't find homes for them or keep them they'd be a lot unhappier than they are now. Keep trying to lift her mood!

I had the same problem but I borrowed one kitten back as I felt so sorry for mamma cat. I took her to the vet the next day as she was lethargic. The vet said to take the remaining kitten away to allow the milk to dry up. She said the kittens took so much out of the cat that she was better off without them. The kittens were 8 weeks old. After about 4 days Mamma cat was quite perky and now she is back to normal.

Well...
Were the kittens old enough to be taken away in the first place? Also, is this her first litter?

If the kittens were too young, she may still have extra milk and her calling is trying to get the to use it.

If this is her first litter, she may not know exactly what happened. If the cat has more litters, she'll get used to it.

She will probably cry for 2 days to a week, depending on what kind of cat and her age.

Some cats take longer than other to stop searching for their kittens thats why maybe to prevent this happening again being spayed would now be a good idea. Some cats take a couple of weeks and some take longer there are no hard and fast rules. Poor cat, it will be totally lost and it is so distressing wondering where its babies are, but they do eventually forget.

Poor momma cat!

She will look for them for a week or two. Most cats- I won't say all- pick up and go on after that.

Meanwhile, keep giving her attention. And consider spaying her so she won't have more kittens.

Give her a few scratches for me.

It might take a while for her to forget them.

What would really help is if you take her to the vet to get fixed; her hormones will stop running amok and she will return to normal much more quickly.

My cat did this--it drove us NUTS! SHe'll stop soon, might take a few days--a week at most. You can try to sooth her, but she'll just keep on doing it until she's ready to give up.

I would have recommended you give them away one per day. You see her milk is still coming in and she is in pain. she wants to nurse them. She will really swell soon and seem uncomfortable. You might try some bag baum on her teets to help her.

NOTE: Don't get her fixed until her milk dries up or she can get Mastitis, but do get her fixed ..........

My cat seemed to do better after about 3 days when we gave her kitties away. Cats do mourn their babies.
