Would you just watch and not do anything? Would you get in the middle or just assume someone else would call 911?

I would have to do something. Run into his chins with my wheelchair.

I just recently saw this question.

I would look for dirt or hot coffee to throw on him, get a stick anything and hit the guy until he stopped beating the person. I am hoping while I am busy doing this that someone has the decency to call 911.

I cannot stand by and watch it happen. No I can't. Especially if no one else has come to the rescue.

Call 911. If I felt I could intervene with out getting killed or hurt I may. But that is a tricky area and could not be answered in till you experience that kind of situation. But call 911 for sure.

I would go right up and try to intervene. I would also call 911.

I know this is true because I've done it more than once.

I also know what it is like to be beaten up in public and have people stand there doing nothing. Only after the creep stopped beating me, because i talked to someone at a rock concert, did people come over and ask if i wanted the police.

I also sat and watched a mom who punched her son in the face for holding a pizza box wrong. When she asked me what I was doing, I said, making sure no one gets hurt. That prompted her to scream at me, and run towards me. I drove off, then looked up to see her following me. It was terrifying, because we kept imagining what was going to happen to her son at home.

I would, of course, get in the middle. After a quick call to 911, that is...I'd like some backup once it's in the fan. But, certainly, any man that calls himself a man would stop and help, no question.

The question is a bit light on details but, all things being equal, my gut tells me that I would have to intervene:

One afternoon, many years ago, I was watching some TV in my living room when I heard a commotion coming from outside.
When I got to my front door I looked across the street and there was this guy who was beating this poor dog with a golf club.
I stood at the door for a moment, trying to figure out just what was going on, - and I saw a bunch of people staring through their doors and windows and, though they appeared quite shocked by this display of cruelty, - they were going to do nothing.
I hurriedly crossed the street, all the while yelling at the guy to stop beating the dog.
When I got close enough to him, he took a swing at me with the club, and it tagged me on my right brow.
His next swing wasn't so unexpected, and I managed to take it away from him and throw it into his neighbor's yard.

....I then proceeded to kick the living Hell out of him.

In the end, I had to get 13 stitches; 9 in my right brow,... and 4 on a knuckle on my right hand (what can I say; the guy had some sharp teeth).

I also had to deal with a few minor legalities but, interestingly enough, many of those same people who just stood there and watched finally did something; they all made statements to the cops which, thankfully, weighed in favor of my actions...

A lot of trouble for a dog, one might say, --- and I suppose one might be right about that...

I was going to take the dog for my own but, sadly, it did not make it.
I've often felt somewhat guilty about that fact; awakened at nights, hearing the dogs pained howls,--- and thinking that he might've lived had I not stopped for those precious few seconds to ponder the expressions of those faces in the doors and windows.

I suppose I'm rambling now...
In fact, I would wager that, given it's verbosity, many may not even bother to read this post...:-))

No matter...;-)

My point for telling this story is simply this:
When your help is needed then it doesn't really matter what you do, - as long as you at least try to do something.

I apologize for the length...

I'm afraid I'd get in the middle of it. If I called 911 who knows how long it would take and what may happen in the meantime. I know this isn't a particularly wise answer....but I could not stand by and do nothing.

Call 911. Notify security. But I would not get directly involved. Too many times, the person that intervenes ends up attacked by both. Plus, a friend of mine got stabbed by the person that he tried to help.

I would yell for someone to call 911 and get in the middle and subdue the man.

Outside Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, 2002. As my friends and I were leaving, a man and woman started to argue, though he did most of the yelling. Then he began to grab her, and she resisted, yanking herself away from him. At this point, as he started slapping her around, I was already reaching in my handbag for my stun-gun. I simply walked up behind him, pressed it to neck, and pushed the button. Unfortunately, I did have to stick around for the police and give them a statement. He was arrested only because I wanted to press charges for the assault. His wife didn't want him to get into any trouble, and I got the feeling that she wasn't happy with me after her choice of words. I'd do it again though, and I still carry a stun-gun, though it's a much more effective one than the one I used on him. And yes, I have had a concealed weapons permit since I moved to Florida, so I have the legal right to carry it.

Call 911, and then make as much noise as possible, hoping to scare the attacker off, but if that didn't work, I'd have to really asses the situation, he may have a gun, and people might get shot, so..........maybe run at him with my truck, or something.
