Peter (whom the Catholic church claims was the 1st Pope) was Jewish, not Catholic. Simon Peter had a wife (the Catholic Popes do not, they profess celibacy), “And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever”. - Matt. 8:14, also read Mark 1:30 and Luke 4:38. The qualifications for a Bishop in the Word (the Bible) is: “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach.” - 1 Tim. 3:2. Peter's name means “stone”, not “rock”. When Andrew brought Simon Peter to Jesus, Jesus beheld him and said:... “Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.” - John 1:42. Simon Peter was the “stone” and Jesus IS the “Rock”. Peter was never in Rome, he was the Apostle or teacher to the Jews in Jerusalem. Rome is in Italy, not Jerusalem. It was in Jerusalem where Jesus first began the church

All religious (Christian) cults claim that their church is the one and only true church, and that all others are of the devil.
However, scripture reveals that the church is the Christian collective, regardless of what church corporate they are a part of. The body of Christ is a spiritual organism, made up of those who have God's Spirit, attained by faith in HIs Son.
There is no "one true church" organization. Anyone who tells you otherwise is recruiting.

>>Simon Peter had a wife (the Catholic Popes do not, they profess celibacy)<<
The early Popes did have wives, this is no secret. The Catholic Church ordains married men even today.
Let me ask you a question. The Scriptures tell us that it was the Apostle Peter who was given the keys to the kingdom of Heaven, the Apostle Peter who was given the power to bind and loose (Matthew 16:19), and the Apostle Peter who was entrusted with the care of Christ's sheep (John 21:15-17). The Scriptures also tell us that the Apostles had successors (Acts 1:15-26). If you are so sure that Benedict XVI is not current the successor of Peter, WHO IS?

Kind of hard to prove much when not EVERYTHING is in the Bible, nor can EVERY argument be proved, trumped, or defended by some scripture in the Bible. The Bible itself wasn't even put together until a few hundred years after Christ's death--by the Catholic church (a council of bishops, to be precise). Read up on European history and the history of Christianity; and remember, the only ones impressed by referencing every argument you have to some passage in the Bible are other Christians--and even then, only other Christians who agree with you in the first place.

Matthew 16:19 Jesus gives Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Traditional Catholic Scholarship teaches that the Church on earth is representative of the Church in heaven. It is only through the church that Grace is able to enter our world. The catholic church really became the power house of the Christan religion, winning out over the 300 or so other christian cults in ancient Rome, and therefore was able to set down what have become the traditional beliefs of Western Christianity.

Anyone who knows any history at all knows that there was no Christian church but the Catholic Church for more than a thousand years after Christ. The Catholic Church has been known by that name at least since the end of the 1st Century. The earliest known written record is from the first Catholic bishop of Antioch, Ignatius, who was catechised and ordained by the Apostle John, and who wrote in 107 of "The Holy Catholic Church".
Not only is the Catholic Church the only Church that can clearly trace its history directly back to the Apostles and Christ Himself, it is also the only Church that demonstrates the unity of belief and unity of worship that Christ said would be the sign of His Church. Surely no-one can think that a collection of thousands of unauthorized, conflicting manmade churches who can't agree with one another on a single doctrinal truth can represent the Church Christ founded. The very existence of denominations is a direct rejection of the stated will of God, "that they all may be ONE".

They have deceived themselves into believing that they have the true Church. But the facts speak for themselves. The Roman Catholic Church contends that its origin is the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ in approximately 30 A.D. The Catholic Church proclaims itself to be the Church that Jesus Christ died for, the Church that was established and built by the Apostles. Is that the true origin of the Catholic Church? On the contrary. Even a cursory reading of the New Testament will reveal that the Catholic Church does not have its origin in the teachings of Jesus, or His apostles. In the New Testament, there is no mention of the papacy, worship / adoration of Mary (or the immaculate conception of Mary, the perpetual virginity of Mary, the assumption of Mary, or Mary as co-redemptrix and mediatrix), petitioning saints in Heaven for their prayers, apostolic succession, the ordinances of the church functioning as sacraments, infant baptism, confession of sin to a priest, purgatory, indulgences, or the equal authority of church tradition and Scripture.

Jesus said to St. Peter....on you (this rock) I build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
He also gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven which is a direct reference to Isaiah 22 in which the master of the house gives his right hand man the keys to the house while the master is away. The holder of the keys has the authority to act as the master in all aspects, making decisions etc. until the master returns.
This is what Peter did. He was the first Pope.

If you consider the word "cult", then I believe that Catholicism is definitely in that category.
I don't have the specific scripture back up but...
-the bible states not to call any worldly religious leader "Father" yet Catholic leaders are called Father.
-the bible states not to have any gods above Him, yet the Catholic religion teaches to pray to many different saints. If you pray to anyone other than God, you are breaking that commandment.
-the bible states not to practice repetitive, showy prayer, yet the Catholic church is full of mindless, going-through-the-motions prayer. If you need proof, attend a service.
-the bible states that your sins aren't forgiven by "works" but rather by repentance and a sorrowful heart and guidance from God. The Catholic religion lets you out of sin by reciting Hail Marys, Our Fathers, etc.
Need I say more?
That sounds like a cult to me!!!
There's no arguing the facts.
