why are peole so quick to give up on God. I really cant belive what I am reading on the computer. It seems like to me that it is easier to say there is'nt a God and accept societies rules, then it is to say there actually is a supreme being, "GOD", and to give GOD a chance and see what he can do for us. I mean even for a non-believer, just give GOD a chance. Sorry for the complaint, I just cant believe what I am reading.

As stated in an earlier question, if you wish us atheists to give god a chance, please state WHICH god. There are thousands of them invented by mankind throughout history. Thanks.

From what I have seen, God's 'representatives' (ie 'christian' people) are narrow-minded, stingy, judgmental people.
If people simply left others to find God for themselves, I can guarantee you that there would be FAR more people who believe in God.
It's when people think that they know The Truth and try to force it on others that things turn sour. Look at the Inquisition, and the Crusades. Look at how so many xtian churches are much more about exclusion than inclusion.
If all I had to go on to believe in God was other people, I would never believe in God. Some of the most selfish, hateful, reprehensible things done in the history of humanity have been done in the name of 'God.'

I did give god a chance. How long should we give god? Most atheist who were once christian had given god 10-20 years before they "gave up" He didn't do anything for me. I did. It was my life and my choices. And it is easier to say there is no god. That in it self should say something. Do we really need to think that hard to know if something is real or not?

I agree with you..Its so sad..If they could just reach out to God. Give him a chance. He is so powerful and the power of prayer is amazing and beautiful..Life is a gift to us and so many people shun the creator of life. If everyone believed in God and followed bible standards what a beautiful world this could be.

Why are (some) people so quick to assume what made people atheists?
For me it was neither quick not easy, and yes, I gave God every chance.
You'll find plenty here who have similar stories. Don't assume we're casual, lazy or ignorant about our atheism.
It would be both disrespectful *and* wrong.

Many people are disallusioned and disheartened to see all the pain and suffering in this material world. Why if there is a God would this be so??? Not my opinion but maybe other's?

It takes courage to trust God. Many don't have it. It takes faith to trust God. Many are faithless. It takes love to give yourself to God, and many are loveless.
After great and long suffering, even the faithless will turn and no longer be subject to a stiff neck.

It was anything but easy for me to come to the realization that there is no proof or evidence of a God and that all of my beliefs were unfounded, and irrational.
Why you ask? Because I am honest with myself.

Welcome to the future reality. The Ark is sinking, logic and commonsense will keep us afloat. The God of the Bible has spent 2500 years doing nothing, now reality rules as superstition fades.

Do you think we would risk eternal damnation if we hadn't had a look over the other side of the fence?
