Didn't it go something like:

Attention:
Present arms:
Draw swords:

And then the moderator would give a scripture...the first to find the scripture would win...

-Am I forgetting anything in this drill?
-What do you think of the correlation to weapons?
-Remembering this, kinda creeps me out...how about you?
-This seems a little like the KKK/brainwashing thing preparing kids for battle of some "foe".

Your thoughts?

I think what you have just described is scary! It is definitely symbolic association they are drilling into them at a young age. It is indeed creepy

We didn't do the present arms/draw swords/attention part, but we did call them sword drills. The correlation is because of the sword of the word reference (Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: )

It doesn't creep me out at all, I did it at predominately black and filipino churches so the kkk angle is lost on me. The battle is spiritual and we most definitely should be prepared to fight a foe with the sword of the word.

Why are U afraid of Scripture??? Heb. 4:12 says; "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." I find it "Creepy" that U have apparently given Urself to the Control of Ur Old Sin Nature, if U don't believe the Scripture!!! Lets see, being "Brainwashed" by God??? Why wouldn't our "Loving Father" NOT Prepare us for living in Satan's World, does He now Hate Us??? Do U hate Ur earthly Father as well??? John

I don't believe there is any harm in that. The scriptures are compared to a sword in the New Testament.

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

The military comparison can also be found in Ephesians.

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:" Ephesians 6:13-17

The Bible does call itself a sword. And we are preparing for a battle againt some "foe" named Satan. Knowing the Bible is the best way to defeat him.

I used to win most of them. The correlation with weaponry doesn't bother me in the least--the Bible is the Word of God & is referred to in @ least one passage as 'the sword of the Spirit'. I still refer to Bibles as swords & I know other believers who do as well.

I don’t recall the sword part but we did have Bible drills. Is this just a Southern Baptist thing or do other denominations do it? Do they still have this? It’s been a few decades.

I went to Catholic school never heard of this.
I am sure whatever church does this sort of thing
doesn't think Catholics are Christians.
Perhaps Catholics are one of the foes
