Well, if she is old school Church of Christ then she probably believes that all music is bad...they do not play instruments in church. (It is based on one scripture taken out of context of the entire Bible which encourages believers to make a joyful noice with all instruments). She may also be a legalist on some other issues as well. (Legalistic meaning bases salvation on ability to follow rules rather than based solely on the grace of God).

I know Church of Christ people who are great but my overall impression is there is some legalism. Church of the Nazerene is pretty balance and very Biblically based.

If you want to find out more about the beliefs of your church, find out if they have a new members class.

Also, no matter who tells you what...read your Bible. Everything should line up with the Word of God. And you should feel "at home" and like you are connecting with people at your church. Connection with other believers is very important.

I would encourage you to attend with your Grandmother. The church of Christ (non-denominational) is the same church that was founded by Christ in the first century. We have been labeled as legalists by some due to the fact that we do not add or subtract anything from the Bible. We speak where the Bible speaks and are silent where the Bible is silent. We use no man made creeds and worship the same way the Apostles did.

In order to help you, I need to know specifically which Church of Christ she attends. Is it the United Church of Christ, the International Churches of Christ, the Church of Christ, Scientist (Christian Science), or the Church of Christ (Latter Day Saints)?

Church of Christ people believe you have to be baptized in order to be saved. They also don't use musical instruments in their services, just singing. Nazarenes believe in a "faith plus works" salvation, I'm pretty sure. I think they're both a little off. I recommend you try some Baptist churches.

All churches teach you wrong. God is just a superstition.

Instead of falling for the myths that religion feeds you and the emotional manipulation it uses to bind you, try thinking for yourself. Christianity, like all other religions, is really a shallow belief. The world is much more interesting than that.

Why do you have have to handle your grandmother?

Does your grandmother really know the difference, or is she just afraid because she does not know?

Do you think you can demonstrate anything to her because anonymous people on Yahoo Answers said so?

Read the links below. Call clergy of either denomination if you have questions.

goodness...why such infighting?

I am not familiar with either denomination...but, I would steer clear of any that teaches you that all others are wrong.

good luck
