Since we can not tell the difference between god existing and not existing, it doesnt effect us. But if there was NO god(s), some would create him/her/them, and some would defy him/her/them. As of right now we don't have a definite answer about whether there is a god(s). Though that doesnt stop people from worshipping him/her, or not believing, or making cults around god, or speaking for him/her/them.
basically this question has no answer.
though thanks for makin me think!

As a teenager, I used to be an atheist, but apparently, I thought more about the future than some atheists do when it comes to recognizing a meaning to life. The bottom line is that if there is no God, then there is no meaning to life, because no matter what we do or how we live in this life, the outcome is the same: six feet under.
I honestly don't know how any atheist can not be troubled by this, unless that atheist is not thinking through the ramifications fully. I was distraught, depressed, almost suicidal.
Since then I have studied and searched long enough and hard enough to have discovered that there is a God, and that while I can't see him, nor can I prove his exist, I can still *aboslutely know* that he exists though personal experience.

Like many answerers here, I come to this question from an atheist perspective, and I find the non-existence of external purpose wonderfully freeing and wonderfully onerous. If there is no "point", no rules but those we make, it falls to us to satisfy our own morality with our conduct and our choices - which in itself is both responsibility, reward and judgment - humanity, heaven and hell all wrapped up in one.
For those who believe in an external purpose, laid down by a creator, I suspect it would come down to a split. There would be those who could mature their way forward, and realise that the world was probably, on balance, a nicer place for everyone when they behaved well towards people, as though a god was watching, and continue to behave well in his demonstrated absence. Others of course would feel betrayed, like they'd missed out, and get angry and unbalanced and probably be "worse" than any imagined demon once free of eternal consequences.

If there were no God then I would probably just chuck it all. Might as well die now as later and not mess with all the struggles. One could even stretch that to the point of trying to destroy the world just to prevent any future pain to other.
However, I am fully convinced in the God of the Bible and therefore have a purpose in this life and a hope for the next. Praise the Lord!

If there was no God, we wouldn't face any problems because we wouldn't be here.....nothing would be here. God made us in His image, we didn't make ourselves. Then.....we sinned. But, through belief and confession of Jesus Christ as our Lord, we can repent (turn away from our sins/return to the Most High God), be forgiven, and have abundant/everlasting life. There weren't any problems with man until we sinned and chose not to be obedient to God. But, thank God for salvation in Christ....He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the Solution to every problem. Nothing can seperate His people from His love!

I don't see any problem. People have to find their own meaning in life.
It would be nice if there were a God, and heaven, I just don't think there is so I focus on this world and trying to be a decent person during my brief time here.
Knowing that I will die does not diminish my interest in life, nor does it remove meaning. If you can only find meaning in life through religion... well... I feel a bit sorry for you. It's such a big world.

Seeing as how this is how I live my life now - there is no purpose in life except for the one you give it and there's no god to speak of.
No problems here..

There would be no problems because of it. Ok, maybe things like increased traffic on Sundays when some people would normally be in church.....some of the ebb and flow of things might change slightly, but I don't see any huge problems like an increase in murder, if that's what you're after.

A lot of people have a lot invested in there being a god, they have married a christian, restrained from sex, convinced their friends, brain washed their children, invested time and effort going to church, sitting on hard benches - and they actually have a very strong pshycological addiction too their religion. They have had all the answers given to them in a book and have never had to think for themselves - only remember passages.
So in short they would still believe in god. Even if the hard evidence was there for all too see (which it is).
