Yes, it is ok to wear black. Just don't wear a wedding dress, or wear white or cream. I have been to two weddings where the bridesmaids wore black dresses. It is not a problem.

You are a guest right? If you are a guest, I say go ahead. If you are the bride, no. I went to a wedding and the bride wore a black dress. A very pretty dress (if in a different color). Everyone was shocked that the bride would wear black.

The color of your dress depends on the season, formality and your comfort level. If the wedding is formal then although not the favorite choice it is acceptable.
A splash of color is definitely recommended. But with darker colors finding there way into the mainstream bridal party attire I am sure you will be fine.
Always remember to be considerate of your dress when a wedding guest. You should not try to upstage the bride and definitely not look like you are on the way to the club. Use taste and tact and if in doubt ....don't wear it.

It really depends on the wedding.
In general, it's okay if it's an evening wedding, or a super formal wedding. For the most part, it would not be appropriate for a daytime wedding, but again, this might depend on the formality of the event.
For those who say don't ever do it, I saw Stacy London from TLC's "What Not To Wear", doing it at a wedding on TV just this weekend. She was one of many guests in black at that particular event

Most females do wear black dresses to weddings now.
Daytime-stick to a little black dress or stay away from it.
Nightime or Black tie weddings-longer black dresses are fine but stay away from little black dresses.

I know it's become increasingly popular. I've even worn black bridesmaid dresses at three weddings (at the brides' request of course). Personally, I am not a fan. Too drab and in many cultures an outright no no. I try to play it safe and festive by wearing a color.

As long as you are not the bride, no one cares what you wear. At my wedding I had a girl wear a khaki skirt and nice shirt, another one wear business type pants, and some older women wear some horrendous floral dresses. It didn't matter, no matter what someone else wore, I was still married to my true love, and any bride who cares what her guests wear or object, should look up the meaning of bridezilla.

Yes, I think wearing black to a wedding is fine...most black dresses people find now adays dont reek of goth or death...they are fun, casual, and fine for a wedding. One of my colors in my wedding is black...I think it would be just fine!! Black is very elegant as well....so I dont think it would be depressing or anything...i think you would look very classy ...and I dont see why the bride would be upset about it...she'd be more upset if you wore white! I say go for it, it will be just fine...

I agree with Stephanie, but I would also consider if it is a very formal wedding, if it is in the afternoon I wouldn't wear it unless it has extra color splashes to it, if it is an evening wedding you might be able to get away with it easier.
