In the last 6 months I have gotten invited to 3 different weddings for people I do not even know! My husband does not know them, I even asked my Mom thinking maybe it is some relative, but she didn't recognize the names either. Does this happen to everyone? Are people sending random invitations hoping people will send them cash? I find it very strange.

Usually there is some connection. People might send them to their old school teachers, or coworkers, or friends from school. Friends of their parents or in-laws. I think I would call them up and ask them where they got your address, if nobody knows them from anywhere in your family. Do they go to your church? Do you have a common name, and they are going through the phone book...kind of like a wrong number, only it's a wrong address?

It does happen. I know that when I got married, I sent invitations to people I had never met. These were my in-laws family members (my mother-in-law's cousin, for example). In that situation, they knew who we were, because they new the last name, but these days, many people don't necessarily have the same last name as their parents. It's also fairly common for invitations to go out with only the bride & groom's first names, so this makes it even harder to identify who is getting married.

It's possible it's a cousin, on a side of the family where the last name hasn't stayed in place, due to marriage or divorce...For example, your dad has a female cousin, who's last name is different from your dad's.

My mom has received a bunch of invitations to other people she doesnt know either. Maybe its a new scam going around. I h ave no idea, but I would never send an invite to someone I didnt know or family didnt know.

yeah maybe it's a scam going around. If there's an RSVP section you might want to try and call them, ask them how they got your address or where they know you from. That's a bit odd though. You might also want to check on the invitation itself. If it's haphazardly done, it might be a scam. If it looks like it's been spent on, you might want to consider recalling some old friends you might have forgotten.

Consider that it may be a scam, not sure for what purpose. If there is a reception hall or church listed maybe look them up an confirm their is a wedding taking place. Or see if you can do a reverse look up with their address and call them up. Maybe block your phone number if you call.

there is the extra presents thing but there is also a number thing. For some people its a sign of how awesome they are to say "we had 300 people at our wedding" even if they couldn't name half of them. I've noticed the same trend on myspace....weird.

Just RSVP not attending and don't worry about it.

This sounds like some sort of scam, be sure to print your name, dont sign it so that they cant steal your signature.(I am always wiggy about identity theft so this was my first thought that they were trying to get you to sign your name on the response line) And just decline. I agree with stating in a small note on the card that you have no idea who they are.

This would drive me crazy trying to figure out who this is, I dont envy you!

This does sound strange. RSVP you won't be attending, and you could include you know neither the husband or wife.

Seems strange to me. If it were me, I'd just ignore the invitations.

Ask your Grandma. They may be distant relatives.
