When you are told that Jesus died for our sins, it is meant literally. All of us are born with a nature that does not desire God, does not desire to follow Him. All of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The wages of sin are death. Sometimes, this is physical death. But it is ALWAYS spiritual death. When we are disobedient to God, then we sin against him. The penalty for that sin is death. But God loves all of us and doesn't want that any of us should perish. However, God will not and cannot violate His nature. He is a loving, forgiving God, but also a just and righteous judge. He cannot simply "wink" at our sin. That is why He sent His son to die for us on the cross. Christ lived a sinless, perfect life in thought, word, and deed. His death paid the penalty our sins demand, bringing salvation and eternal life to those who accept the gift. It is not enough for us to simply know that Christ died for us. We must repent and turn away from our sin (meaning we come to God with a heart broken over our sins), ask His forgiveness, and trust that Christ's sacrifice for us was sufficient.
Here's an analogy: Imagine you have committed some crime and are about to be sentenced by the judge. You are clearly guilty -- you know it, the judge knows it. The judge says to you...Okay bsbfan95, you've committed this crime and are guilty. I hereby sentence you to 20 years in prison unless you can pay a $50,000 fine (or some other amount you cannot pay). Now imagine a man walks into the courtroom holding the $50 grand and says...Your Honor. Bsbfan95 doesn't know me, but I have her fine right here and am willing to pay it. All she has to do is believe that I have it with me and be willing to turn from her life of crime and I'll gladly pay her fine, so that she won't have to go to jail. If you accept the offer, then the judge is free to let you go, since the law has been satisfied. If you refuse the offer, the judge must sentence you to jail. That's what Christ did for you on the cross. He died to pay the penalty of death your sins demand.
The moment you repent and put your faith in Christ, God promises that your sins, past, present, and future, will be forgiven. He promises you will have new life in Christ, be given a new heart, with new desires, and that the Holy Spirit will live in you to guide and encourage you.
I hope this helps. If you haven't yet repented, though you may be a Christian, then I urge you to do it today. Don't let another day go by without repenting, because we never know what tomorrow may bring and if you die in your sins, it will be too late.
God bless

This is a question that is easily answered--by reading the Bible. Please don't rely on what other people tell you about your beliefs. Read the Bible cover to cover and pray daily so you can get to know the Lord. He'll make it worth every minute you spend reading His Word, I guarantee you.
Quick answer: when the Hebrews (Israelites) wanted forgiveness of sins, they had to sacrifice a perfect animal--the best they could afford. Mostly, it was a goat, lamb, or birds. But they had to be without defect. They took the animal to the temple where a priest would have the giver place their hands on the animal so as to pass the sins from them to the sacrificial animal. The animal was then slain and the blood was drained into a bowl.
Blood had to be shed for the forgiveness of sin. Jesus evidently tired of the cycle of sin, sacrifice, sin again, so He took it upon Himself to be the once and for all time sacrifice for all mankind's sins. Now all we have to do is accept His death (bloodshed) for ours.
Nobody in hell ever went to Heaven. There used to be a place called "Abraham's bosom", but when Jesus died, He collected the keys to the gates of hell and he freed all those who were held (in Sheol) so the believers could be freed and ascend to Heaven.
Christians do not threaten hell if you sin, Jesus does. He's in control of where we go when we die. He will judge us all when it's time. Besides, it's not a threat if it's real!

When Adam and Eve went against god's words and ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge , It was a sin ( crime ) against God's law, God cursed the word with sin . That is why we have sickness ,diseases , getting old , death , severe weather . Man has been spiritually eternally separated from God ever since , and we all deserve to be in hell for our sins .God through his infinite mercy gave us his only begotten Son to suffer , shed his blood , and to die on the cross to pay for the sins of the people who will hear his word and trust and believe in Jesus ( Born again ,John 3:3 )as their savior and to try to live the life Christ wants us to and, to do his will . God is NOT all forgiving , it's impossible , John 3:3 , 1 Corinthians 6:10...How do you know you are a christian ? Just because you go to Church , and are a nice person ? NOT ! Do you go to a bible believing church ? If not , find one ..Since you didn't know the answer to your question. I'm just trying to help , also read the bible (KJV) every day .

Okay. What this means is: God created a perfect world and we messed that up. The penalty for that is death or eternal damnation. But because God loved us he sent Jesus to die for us on the cross. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice, because he was without sin. Now what I think you misunderstand is that Jesus did die for everyone, BUT each individual person has to believe that he died for them, that he was nailed to a cross, and that he rose again on the third day. He paid the price for everyone that will except him. So even though he died, if you don't believe in him and give him your heart then you will go to hell.

He didn't cure us from sin, he bought us forgiveness for it. Even though you may be cured of some diseases, you still suffer the symptoms until the disease is abated. He performed the miracles as a sign from God that he was the Christ, the Messiah, and even as he did these things in front of the people, many chose not to believe. There is no blindness, or sickness, or death in Heaven. Until Jesus returns, and establishes his reign on Earth, it is the devil's turf. There is where the afflictions come from.

Christ died to pay for your sins. It is a gift that can be yours, but it isn't yours until you accept it. If you don't accept it, you will go to hell. You don't go to hell for sinniing, you go to hell for not having forgiveness.
To get this gift you acknowlege that you are a sinner, worthy of hell. You admit that the only hope you have is through accepting God's gift of grace, the payment for sin that CHrist made on the cross.
If you do this you will be saved eternally. You will want to be in a Bible preaching church and praying and studying the Bible as well as learning to obey. You won't do these thing to get to heaven though, these things are just to help you grow and be happy!

When the human race was created, we had a perfect relationship with God. Then, when we chose to depart from what God had commanded, it broke our relationship with God. That is why we feel separated from God today, we are supposed to be in a close relationship with God but a barrier is there between us because God is holy and pure and good. We cannot be in his presence because we are sinful. Whenever we lie, cheat, hate, steal, kill, lust etc. we make ourselves unacceptable to God - it doesn't matter how little the sin, sin is still sin. It's like let's say there was a glass of water and somebody told you "there's just a drop of urine in it" would you still want to drink it? No, because it is disgusting. You are getting some vague idea of how God feels about our sin.
But on the other hand, God loves us. He wants to be in a relationship with us, but the purity of his holiness prevents him from being close to us without killing us. That's where Jesus comes in.
Jesus lived a perfect life, he never sinned and he had a perfect relationship with the Father. When Jesus died on the cross, God took our sins from us and put them into Christ. God literally seperated us from our own sins and punished Jesus for them as if he had done them. At the same time, God took Jesus's perfect relationship with God and gave it to us! So when God looks at us instead of seeing all the sinful things that we have done and what we are, he sees all the good things that Jesus has done and is.
All that we have to do is accept this gift and repent. Which means we want to live our lives in obedience to God out of gratitude for what he has done. It is possible for someone to think they are following God when in their heart and in their lives they really are not. That is why we have to examine ourselves and make sure that we are living a life that is pleasing to God. The good news is that if we're not, all we have to do is confess it to God and he will change our hearts, we don't have to "try harder" - Jesus has already won the battle for us on the cross!
I hope that this helps?

I believe that word word "sin" has come to be used way to lightly, and that religious groups use it for no other reason but to try to make us "behave" or to separate the "good people" from the "bad people"
I am not a Christian either... I do believe that Jesus died for our sins, which in Gods eyes are forgivable- no matter what they are, because God is all about forgiveness... we are NOT going to hell because we are homosexuals or because we eat shellfish, you people don't really believe this to be true do you???!!! These "Christians" make God sound SOOOOO horrible, don't they?!? They really have no clue what a wonderful God we have.

You know, this is a tricky question, even for us believers. The main thing I take from Jesus's death and resurrection is that we should follow Him. We should remember what he went through and have His strength, even as we get tried. In seeing that He knew what he was going to go through (since He is God) and he still went through it, we should also be strong and courageous in any circumstances that we know are going to be difficult. If we look at Hebrews 2:14, we see that he shared our humanity so that by his death he would destroy the devil's hold on us. Also, in Hebrew's 4:14-15, we see that he was like us in that he was tempted in every way, but was without sin, so we can follow his example. We can't be saved unless we come to God through Jesus.
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6
I hope this helps.

I gotta say, it's kind of confusing to me, too. I mean one of the last answerers, said that "if you sin and don't repent, then you go to hell..." But Jesus already died for my sins, all of them, so why do I have to repent, even? He knew the sins I was going to commit before I did them and he still died for them, so what's with this hell and with this repenting stuff? So far, I haven't heard a good explanation either.
