She said, "I think I will fix some chicken noodle soup".
I replied, "Good idea."
How much trouble did I get in for that reply?

(I am not complaining, I am just reminding myself to get up every morning and say to my sweet wife, "I am sorry for whatever I did, or will do today".)

Dear Pangel, I swear I didn't get her drift. I think her illness was a sore throat, or sinus troubles, -- we are both sure she wasn't bed ridden. -- The more I talk about, the worse it is sounding.

Uncle Wayne, It's never too late to make up for past indiscretions. Grill cheese and chicken noodle soup may be in order for tonight!

Oh man, I feel your pain brother. But you can't fight it. If you truly love your wife, you'll accept the fact that most women (your wife is 1 of those) have a talent for being astonishingly irrational.
Some of the female responders to your question are testimony to this unfortunate reality.
Take the bad with the good. Just remember: everything is always your fault and you're very, very sorry about it. This will make your life much easier.
I've found the preemptive apology to be quite effective. Whenever you're with your wife, apologize often and at random for no specific reason.

I feel for you, women are usually the caretakers of the family and I imagine it can be easy to fall into a routine that works. She probably felt taken advantage of and maybe forgotten. Maybe you could do something unexpectedly thoughtful to get out of the doghouse; wash the dishes one night after supper or vacuum for her without her asking. Small things can go a long way, good luck.
**I read a couple of answers that noticed how unclear her statement was in relation to what she actually wanted. I think any married person would agree that in a marriage there can be codes that each person usually understands. It may be body language, looks, or word phrasing. I doubt she was trying to manipulate; she probably just wanted a little pampering without having to ask. Its never as good when you have to ask, :) right?

Well she confused you right? She should have said gee, some chicken noodle soup sounds good. Then, you would have got up and fixed it for her. She made it sound like she WANTED to get up and fix the soup.

1. While I understand that is female language for "I feel like sh!t please be thoughtful and do it for me," I also understand that this is a harsh and manipulative female control tactic meant to rob you of your masculinity and further enslave your mind. Before long, she might actually expect you to do the dishes every time she says she's gonna do that! What next, watching SOAP OPERAS?!!!
2. I probably would have made the soup before she even woke up, knowing she was sick... its your wife after all. :P

Well I would have done it, so maybe a little.
But 6 months? Boy does she hold a grudge. The next time make it but put way too much pepper in. She won't ask again.

Well it could have been a lot worse. Thing about some other things that could have poured out of your mouth at that very second:
"Well since you are up would you grab me a beer"
"Bout time you got off your butt and did something"

So you sat there and let your sick wife make her own soup? Not a good idea.

You should have read that a mile away.
You were suppose to take care of her, even if it was for a minute.
Amazing how clear the facts were, huh?
