+ 2 John 0:1
+ 3 John 0:1

+ Catholic +

The Church has referred to itself as the “Catholic Church” at least since 107 AD (about 10 years after the last book of the New Testament was written), when the term appears in the Letter of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Smyrnaeans:

"Wherever the bishop appear, there let the multitude be; even as wherever Christ Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church."

We do not know how long they had been using the term "Catholic" before it was included in this letter.

All of this was long before the Council of Nicea and the Nicene Creed from 325 A.D. which states, "We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church."

With love in Christ.

Only "baptist." Since I'm a baptist, I could make a good joke about that, but actually "baptist" is only used in the Bible to mean baptizer (referring to John, of course).

Why did you even ask this silly question? My guess is that you are trying to suggest that it's wrong to have denominational differences. That, of course, misses the whole point. Denominations exist because each one believes its own to be closest to the true teaching of Scripture (except catholicism, which subjects itself to the tradition of the Roman Church). But with all these people trying to conform to Scripture, some will be wrong about what it teaches, some will be spot on, and others will be closer or further away. Denominations will grow naturally out of that spectrum. Denominations, then, are not wrong to have. You will find that the "baptists," "Calvinists," "Presbytarians," and "methodists" you mention, while having some differences, almost always embrace each other as fellow brothers and sisters in the true faith. But I can't simply dismiss what I think is true for the sake of tearing down denominational walls. That would be disingenuous of me. Denominations promote unity in the church among those who believe similarly. If a church is so accepting that it embraces any teaching, the unity in that church is utterly destroyed. All the members believe different things! No unity there. So whether the words appear in the Bible is really beside the whole point. Dogmatism is essential for following the Bible itself.

On the other hand (sorry for blabbing so long), sectarianism can be taken to unhealthy extremes, and actually promote dissension. Paul speaks against this in 1 Corinthians. At the same time, Paul delivers those who believe a false gospel over to Satan. You can see the careful balance between embracing people and breaking away from people. It takes wisdom, humility, love, and unwavering adherence to true doctrine only.

No,of course not. There was only one Universal Church of Christ until the split between east and west resulted in the formation of the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. Orthodoxy never balkanized; it is organized along national lines which has somehow prevented schismatic tendencies. Greek,Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox are the biggest "denominations" if you want to use the term. In the west, the Roman church opted for an imperial structure which - eventually - led to schismatic tendencies resulting in the reformation. With the exception of the Lutherans, virtually all Protestant denominations are splintered off from the Church of England, which broke off from Rome about 500 years ago.

Only John the Baptist - because he baptized by immersion and baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. The other words are newer than the Bible. The word "Christian" wasn't coined until after Jesus's death and resurrection. and used in Antioch. His followers were known as followers of the Way for a long time.

Baptist appears only in reference to John the Baptist.
Meaning that John spoke repentance and remission of sins and baptized people with water. His views were not his views and his words were divinely given and inspired by God. Other than that, a very isolated reference to the presbytery is found in 1Tim. 4:14. You would have to read the whole chapter to better understand it though.

If you are asking whether or not a specific Christian denomination is mentioned by name in the Bible, the answer is "no".

The Bible teaches a Universal Faith, not a sectarian one. As someone else has already pointed out, this goes to show God does not desire sectarianism amongst Christians. God does desire all Christians to be united as One under the banner of a Universal Church.

What the name of this Church is; what human beings decide to name it; pales in importance compared to the beliefs this Church is asking us to accept as God's Truth. It is this Truth that the Bible teaches us.

There was John the Baptist, but that has nothing to do with the Baptist cult, and the Bpatist cult itself does not appear in the Bible.
