If evolution was proved to be, without a doubt, completely correct and true, and it became a law, would you say this absolutely proves there is no God?

God is neither provable nor disprovable. Regardless of the amount of information, there will always be a new way to interpret scripture and call it "hyperbole". The Bible uses a lot of circular reasoning. You have to believe in the Bible because God ordained it and you can tell that God ordained it because it says so in the Bible. That sort of thing.

No, evolution could be reconciled with the existence of a god. A god could have put everything in place and then let evolution start. But of course, it would well work without one.

By the way, to several of the other repliers: Of course you can prove a negative. For example, you can prove that the definition of god is self-contradicting. That would be a 100% proof that there is no god. And that's the reason why the godbelievers stay very, very vague about the definition of their gods.

Of course not. there is no way to prove that something, ANYTHING, does not exist. It's a logical impossibility. Besides, the fact of evolution is established already. I wouldn't say completely correct and true, but true in its essence. They're still arguing over some of the details. Accepting evolution does not mean you have to become an atheist. If someone told you different, they lied. But then, "they" lie all the time.

No. For one thing, evolution HAS been proved to be true (details available on request). But that does not mean that some god could not have invented the rules which cause evolution to happen. However, such an idea, being irrefutable, has no predictive power: it is totally useless.

No, it doesn't.. all it proves is that the world wasn't created in 6 days as per sumerian/babylonian myth that the hebrews and later the christians adopted.
There is no way to prove a negative.. and evolution doesn't set out to prove the origins of the universe.

1: The ToE has been proven to be a fact.

2: The ToE says NOTHING about the existence of God. It only implies that a literal reading of Genesis-as-history is wrong.

No. I don't think you can prove indefinitely the existence or non-existence of a higher power. That is why these arguments will go on until the end of time without ever being resolved.

It only contradicts the 2 accounts in Genesis, making the bible a very questionable source of information. You have to ask what the root of belief is... is it the good book, or just mere fantasy?

(btw, evolution is incontrovertibly proven. start reading stuff on talkorigins.org if you are stuck)

Nope. I'd say that it proves that Genesis is filled with "just so" stories that aren't literally true. Of course, I knew that already.

Even as an atheist I know only death can prove anything. I believe we won't know the difference because we'll be dead so what does it matter at the end?
