The cult of celebrity.
I don't mean to be tasteless, but I heard a story that when Elvis died and a group of recording industry executives were told, one of them said "Good career move."
So that's the way it is. She dies quite tragically, she was famous, she was good looking and glamorous, she had 2 young children and she was a princess...... What better tragic fairy tale could the media ask for?
She is frozen in time, her faults forgotten, her virtues lauded beyond their worth and she is put upon a pedestal from which she can never fall. Had she been catholic, the previous Pope would probably have made her a saint pronto.

Princess Diana was beautiful inside as well as outside, and the people loved her.
She married a man who did not love her, and that is very hard for any woman to take.
By the time she realised that she had been set up, by her husband and his mistress it almost broke her.
But Diana was strong and she done her own thing, and that what annoyed other people. She was only used to get an heir and a spare.

Hello,
Well like the song in Evita,
"She filled a bullring 45,000 seater,
But if you're prettier than General Franco
That's not hard!"
So if you are prettier than Mother Teresa that's not hard!
The minefields got me. Such a big fuss on her and nothing about the several people in the army engineering corps that get killed or maimed every year digging the mines out of public trails or school yards around the world.
Regards,
Michael Kelly

Because she was royalty and was very much in the public eye. She was involved in a lot of scandal. She was beautiful and people felt sorry for her with the whole Charles thing.
Not everyone can remember everyone.

The first reason is because she was really loved and fortunately for her,she also died just before her worshippers realised she had feet of stone. The general attitude of deifying the dead simply took over.
