Never ever....ever never...consider what you see on a fictional television show where murders are solved in less than one hour minus commercials as that of what happens in real life.

CSI makes for great entertainment but leads the public to think that real crime can be solved in a matter of minutes!

Forensic pathologists do a honorable job in fighting crime and is a profession that pays better than many!

Put your goals out there and run for the finish line!

Best wishes!

First and foremost.... it is NOT even remotely what you see on t.v...... "CSI" only processes crime scenes at the direction of the case Detective. They do not interview anyone or do any investigation work. Photograph the scene, collect evidence, dust for prints.

If you want to work in a lab, you will need a good biology or higher degree. You examine evidence in a lab and do reports.

If you want to be a Medical Examiner... you need a doctorate degree in that. You process bodies looking for a cause of death.

Hope this helps. So many people think that CSI show is real. It is all Hollywood.

CSI is a TV show, it does not even come close to real-life investigatory work. If you have the aptitude for scientific studies you can be a forensic pathologist, or a chemist, or a medical examiner.

People who work in these jobs do not live in bubbles......they have families and other responsibilities as well as "the job".

Hope this helps.

Yes you could do that and raise a family.
Keep in mind that most police departments don't have most of the equipment they show on the program. And clues don't get handed to them like they do on the program. A CSI can spend weeks sifting through human waste to find a fragment of a bullet, etc. It's not the glamor job it's played out to be.

The original show- Love it!
The sister shows not so much
The real job- Me.... yes
As for you that is your decision realize it is nothing like the tv shows depecit. I don't know about any other state but in New Mexico they offer a class taught by APD CSI to show what the job is really like and let people decide if they want to continue on that path. Contact your local police and see if they have a similar program.

Well I investigate homicides and I have 5 kids, you just don't take your work home with you.

The show on TV is so far removed from reality it's a joke.

Too much information for me! Of course, you could do that and still raise a family! I wouldn't enjoy my work, though.
