When we go to the pond ducks and geese always come up to us looking for food. I know we shouldn't give them bread, but is there something else we can give them?

Get some dried corn. I would say to give them dried pet food but that doesn't seem to safe nowadays. You can also get some sunflower seeds from the pet area of your local Walmart, pet supply store.

Never feed wild ducks and geese. Many areas have laws prohibiting the feeding of waterfowl, for health and hygiene reasons. Feeding attracts more ducks and geese. Excessive duck and geese feces can foul water and create health hazards, both for humans and for the birds themselves.

It is also not good for the birds to learn to accept handouts. It undermines their natural instincts for finding food. If they are supplied with an abundance of food, they may not migrate on time. When they do migrate, they may not be able to find enough food to survive.

Bread is the worst food for ducks. "Another reason to restrain from feeding Ducks is that although Ducks seem to love bread, it is not nutritious. White bread in particular is made from refined flour and is not proper for avian nutrition. Many Ducks suffer from degenerative liver disease because they eat too much. Also, leftover bread and Duck droppings pollute the water. The uneaten bread turns into a deadly mold called Aspergillus, which is fatal to Ducks, fish and other animals. Rotting bread can also breed other deadly diseases and parasites, particularly a Duck virus Enteritis, which with a single outbreak will kill all the Ducks of that area."

If these are tame ducks ( some of our local spots have these for the publics enjoyment) you should never feed them bread as in answers already. There is however a FLOATING waterfowl feeds sold at most feed stores. It is the most fun to feed and is nutritionally the correct feed for waterfowl. You actually throw the feed on the pond and the ducks eat it on the pond as it just floats.Wonderful fun.

Nothing!! In the town I grew up in, a huge tourist town, people would feed the ducks and geese all the time and eventually they stopped flying South for the winter. It's best to just let them eat what they're meant to eat, how they're meant to eat it.

Like the first person said, dried corn would be good. Pet food should also be fine, though it's hard to say whether that is really healthy for them. Cut up carrots and celery would also be good, as would any sort of seed, such as sunflower, pumpkin, or general bird seed mix.

At the farm store you can get specialized food just for them...corn is mostly for the winter to help keep them warm...I have both, and they sure like to eat my flowers if they can get at them...also lettuce, cabbage, really anything...I have even given mine spaghetti...and if they are wild you will have them around forever...
have fun
