Nobody here can answer that. A psychiatrist can answer it, and the best ones to answer it are the psychiatrists who work with psychotherapists (social workers and/or psychologists).

Depression and anxiety are the most common psychiatric (mental) disorders. Many, many people have them and your symptoms are not too uncommon. Some people benefit from antidepressant medication. Fewer benefit from anti-anxiety medication (because it's typically habit-forming). SSRIs are a type of antidepressant that can also help with anxiety. Therapy is (as it should be) always recommended whether you end up taking medications or not.

Talk to a mental health professional. Have a parent or other caretaker call your insurance company to see what clinics are covered. Make an appointment and have an evaluation. This is a serious illness, but also very common.

You really should see a doctor. I would think you would benifit from medication. If you are having suicidal thoughts or feeling of cutting, you should seek out imediate help. Tell a parent or adult you trust. You cant ignore these issues. Depression at any age is not normal, neither is anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or cutting. Please talk to an adult today, if you feel you cant talk to your parents, you really should see a doctor ASAP!!

I know the thought of telling your parents is scarey. I also know that you fear telling a doctor. I was there! I was a teenage cutter. I feared telling anyone, I didnt want to go to the hospital, I didnt want to be 'put away'. I finally got help, but it was almost too late for me.

You are taking a huge step here by asking the questions you have! You want help, so go to the adult you trust the most right now and talk to them!!!

Good Luck!

I started taking an SSRI earlier in the year after talking to my medical doctor and my therapist about taking them for several months. I was VERY hesitant about taking them. But I ended up taking a drug and it turned out to be nothing as scary as I thought. I think the big thing to keep in mind is that everyone reacts differently to them. or example, I didn't have problems with bad side-effects rom Lexapro but I've heard people say it was awful for them. They won't necessarily make you numb, but keep in mind - they WILL affect your life. I had issues with being drowsy all the time and had to stop taking it. If you think you really might need a drug it's worth trying it out. But remember you can always switch to another one, which many people do, or you can stop altogether. Good luck in your decision making with this! I know it's not an easy choice to make!

This is one that goes well beyond the abilities of anyone on this service to help with.

I can offer a site with good information, but I do pray you will find help.
