My 2 year old goes to bed around 8:30 - we've tried putting him down earlier but he won't go to sleep and keeps getting out of bed and screaming. If we wait until 8:30 though, we have no problems at all. Depends on the kid and the parents though. My husband and I both worked until 6:30 or so up until recently, so dinner was always around 7:00. I wasn't going to make him go to bed without spending any time with him. I couldn't do that. When that was happening we'd let him stay up until 9-9:30, but he was waking up later in the morning as well. Find a bedtime that works best for your family's schedule. Just make sure you have some sort of routine, so even though the time may change, the routine doesn't. Good luck.

I think that it is up to the parent. I have a 1 & 2 year old and they both go to bed at 8:30-9:00 because that is what is best for our schedule.

my daughter 2 1/2 goes to bed between 7:45 and 8 during the week she goes to daycare and if it is later then she gives me a hard time in the morning. Just try what you think works for you and you will figure it out. My son is 4 1/2 and goes to bed at 8:30 - 9:00 during the week

Between 7 and 8 - depends what time they get up - the earlier they rise the earlier to bed. They recommend 12 hours sleep for a 2 year old, but all kids are different (of course)

I have a 2 year old and he and his 1 year old brother are on a schedule that fits them and our family. They get up at about 8 am take a nap at 2 pm and go to bed at 8:45pm for the 1 year old and 9pm for my 2 year old. But I know at least 3 or 4 families that let their kid fall asleep in the living room and they don't care when they go to sleep. I couldn't deal with that. You should learn when they get tired and just try to work around that.

Well on average they need about 10 to 13 hours between ages 1 to 3 - it varies!
Some need more , some less - just like adults!
If they have a nap during the day then of course they need less at night and will go to bed later!
So depending on what time they are awake and what time you want them to get up put them to bed about 11 and a half hours before that!
So if you want them up at 7 then put them to bed at 7.30 the night before and see how it goes!
The most important thing to children at this age is routine!
So tea, bath, bed with bedtime story - consistency with this and time-keeping is the key!
That way they get to know what to expect and they feel secure!
A good indication is how irritable and bad-tempered they get the next day - if they are constantly whining then they probably need more than they are getting - hope this helps!

It depends what time she gets up and if she has a nap during the day. A child of 2 needs 14 hours in 24 of sleep to develop properly, after 5 years old 12 hours is enough then

My daughter Taylaa is two and she goes to bed between 7-730 at night if she doesnt have a sleep during the day. If she has a sleep during the day then she will go to bed a little bit later about 8. It depends on the child and if he/she has a sleep during the day etc.

I don't believe there is a *should* with kids - you know your own children. But be sensible about it! :-)
Don't leave it so late they are 'overtired' - that is, trying hard to stay awake, or kept awake by energetic activities so their stress hormones and adrenalin is too high to relax into a deep enough sleep. Then they will wake in the night, although it seems contrary.
I would say between 7 and 8, which has always been the case for my 3 year old.
