I always assumed that sex before marriage was something christians could but was better if they didn't since I hear of several religiously-minded christians treating it as no big deal.

Pre-marital sex is "so common" because there are millions of sinners in the world. Not everyone is a Christian. Parents that are Christians try to teach their children morals but it's up to the children to follow God's word or not (free-will). Temptations and peer pressure are high during the teen years and early twenties. If a person isn't strong in their faith they give into these temptations and follows their peers.

And sadly, many people claim to be Christians but truly aren't. They go to church service weekly or on Christmas and Easter and that's it. So if the faith isn't strong in the house, the kids don't pick up on it either. So they fall into sinful ways. Like smoking and drinking.

It's probably a myriad of things, but if you're speaking strictly about what was the initial blow & why it became more common even inside the Church, I think it started when the Church started compromising God's Word with man's opinion (i.e. the doctrine of Creation being compromised by the "higher critics"). It is this doctrine that gives foundation to God's intention for marriage--one man & one woman for life.

In Biblical Christianity, it has never been okay to have sex outside of marriage. This is clear from not only the doctrine of Creation, but the Commandment "Thou shalt not commit adultery," (Exodus 20:14).

Once those even inside the Church had the boldness to tell God what He really meant as applied to His words about Creation, it became much easier for people inside the Church to justify themselves when it came to God's Word about adultery.

I also think that along with this lax way of thinking, came a lack of church discipline. Fathers aren't doing their job of disciplining their children in general, neither are pastors & elders doing their job of disciplining church members. Let's remember that excommunication is not supposed to be a hateful thing, but rather something that calls a Christian to true repentence in Christ alone.

I guess that's the simple answer although there's much more detail that could be discussed.

I easily have realized in existence that in case you do not say some thing or talk out even slightly, and save your mouth close, that extraordinarily a lot ability you're for some thing. human beings anticipate you compromise. i respect gay human beings and function gay pals. yet.... you're good they'll save sinning no matter if we make the marriage legal or no longer. yet there comes a time once you basically might want to assert, i do not agree. the component about the marriage is they get advantages. They get to declare one yet another as a husband and spouse might want to. in the different case, they are in straightforward terms 2 human beings living mutually. they want to be known by society as a legal couple, so that's no longer fairly about the sex in line with se.

Well, there are actually a lot of questions hidden in that one question.

1.) Why are people doing things against what they claim to believe? - We are all humans and we have all come short of perfection, that's why Jesus came to save us. There are many reasons why people have sex b/f marriage, each having their own hidden justification. However sex b/f marriage is wrong regardless of who is doing it.

2.) What do you think is Christianity? -B/C being a Christian is way different than following Christ. Which BTW following Christ and believing that He has saved you from your sin is the only way to heaven and the only way to be true Christian...

First of all, Christians do not suppose to have sex before marriage...if u r a Christianur supposed to study and read ur bible..that will tell you gods rules to live by and lets not forget SELF SERVES SIN... and when a person is doing what they want to do..for the most part its not what god wants us to do..people may say im this or that, but watch how they live and that will reveal the truth..

Actually, having sex before marriage breaks the Ten commandments. For anyone who truly follows Christ and struggles in this area, they need to pray about it and ask the Lord to take it away from them or they should get married. But it is a sin that is becoming so common in the church.

The sex drive is a powerful one, as we all know. There are those who would rather obey it than the wisdom of God.

Being a Christian does not eliminate being human. It also does not do away with our own free will.

There are those who want to do what they want to do. They claim to be a Christian, yet live as they please without regard to the patterns and areas of protection God has for His children. Then, they personally justify their activities.

Yet, God is a God of mercy and grace. He has given us a free will and not made us to be His automatons. He wants us to choose out of our love for Him and not because it is a rule or law. This does not mean He approves when someone lives outside of His design but He will be patient and lovingly deal with an individuals heart.

Many kinds of sin have become commonplace, and some even accepted by certain manmade Christian churches, who have allowed themselves to be influenced by the secular mores of our largely pagan society. However, God hasn't changed His view of sin, nor has the Church He founded for all mankind. Sexual activity before or outside of marriage is what James calls "a sin unto death", what the Church calls "a mortal sin", which means the same thing.

The Bible does tell us to refrain from it until we are married. Unfortunately like so many other things, we've created a world where premarital sex is no big deal.

Like some other people have said, pleasure takes over and leads people to do it. People are living more for themselves and not for God. Yes I know many people who believe in Christ are doing it and that's sad, but so many things have an impact on why that is common today.

All I can say is, God created it for marriage and His desire is for us to wait. Whether or not you follow it...that's your choice.

That's the problem. They are religious. True Christians are not religious instead they have a relationship with God. BIG difference
