I block people who respond to genuine questions with "You need to accept Jesus .. ect." or "there is no G-d," name calling or if they have revealed themselves to be any other kind of troll.

If someone presents a relatively well thought out response, even if I disagree with them, I usually give them a thumbs up and go about my merry way.

Why do you block people?

AJM - How can I be closed minded if I give thumns up to arguments that are strong even when I disagree.

I'm closed minded because I don't want to have to sift through the same tired old single-minded statements that don't give me anything to consider?

If you consider a response such as; "your a dumbass" as a valid response that I need to open my mind to and consider as potentially enlightening, I think you have lost your grip on reality and prove to have no intelligent boundaries.

You've pretty much nailed my reasons. Folks who graze through the pastures of R&S and post mindless one line assertions... or those who troll with racist stuff --> in you go.

On the other hand, thoughtful people I disagree with... you might even get a thumbs up outta me!

Unfortunately I am in the same position as Graciela, Lorreign and Punch.
After noting that "Answers in Genesis" often misrepresents and openly lies about what scientists say, I recieved an offensive email from the person who was promoting them and after calling me a moron several times in the email the little freak blocked me from responding. I think the geeks name was "godismysheild" or something silly like that

Yes, the trolls use the troll block feature.

Having been the victim of a stalker who reported all my questions going back for months, I've learned to be more careful as to who I add to my contacts list and I've had to block people who are known to be stalkers.. other than that, I don't bother blocking people. I'm like you, if it's intelligent and well-constructed, I'll give it a thumbs-up even if I disagree.

I don't block people. I like seeing a variety of viewpoints. I learn the most from people who disagree with me, not the ones who agree with me. Trolls entertain me.

I generally block people whose writing reveals a complete lack of respect for language and logic.

because they are very offensive.

i block people that make racist comments because they can be hurtful and sometimes no matter how many times you report them they get back on with a different user name.

i blocked the green KKK guy but i think thats it. sometimes racist people can give their views and be nice about it but sometimes like the green KKK guy they just come up with things to hurt people and that i don't need in my day.

Blocking people shows you are close minded and cannot accept that others have different beliefs.

There are a ton of people here whom I disagree with strongly, but blocking them would show weakness in my faith.

edit: I wasn't referring to you personally.

I don't block anyone...I am secure in my beliefs and am able to emotionally handle inconsequential barbs and even ignorant remarks that simply underline my position....Tsk,Tsk, I say......Believe what you will....Say what you will....you do not scare me...and yet I still care for you....Just say no to blocking...That's my theory.

I've only blocked one person. And he blocked me because I'm an atheist. That was his only reason. So I said fine. and blocked him too.
