I have purchased a set of Phillips wireless tv transmitters and am having problems with the reception on one of the tv sets. The tv attached to the receiver works fine but the main tv that is connected to the sender changes channel on a random basis. It does not change from one station to the next but will flip through different modes AV to RG to scart1 etc... and then returns to the original channel. This makes it almost impossible to watch and is pretty annoying when I'm trying to watch the football!. Has anyone got any ideas of what might be causing this problem? For info the model is a Phillips SVL5400. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

In truth, the root of your problem is the 'wireless' bit.

No manufacturer has yet come up with a wireless transmitter for TVs, speakers, etc. that isn't affected by the weather, other electrical equipment or people simply walking around.

There are no decent wireless solutions available yet, I'm afraid. In the end, if you want a reliable signal, you will need cables.

You may be experiencing interference. The wireless transmitter is probably 'interacting' with your TV and causing the problem.

Try moving the transmitter physically further away from the TV and see if that helps. The installation manual should have a troubleshooting section to help you correct any other issues.

And finally, electronic equipment is not exempt from failure. Your unit may be part of a bad batch. Take it back to the retailer and ask for a replacement as this one isn't working.

At least if they ask you question son what you have tried, you can explain all the steps that you took.

You could also try it on a friend's set up or take it to your other relatives to try it at their houses too. Just in case it's something to do with where you live. Your house/flat/etc may contain something that interferes with the signal - too much steel or something in the brickwork.

If you're near electricity pylons, or a mobile phone mast, they could be adding to the interference.

Also check it works if you have a computer wi-fi network nearby. I think they all work around the 2.4GHz freq band.

Do you hook up your video FIRST into the Wireless, THEN it goes into the troublesome TV set?

IF SO, then the Wireless reciever must be switching your inputs to the troublesome TV set....

IF NOT, and the Wireless is connected to the Troublesome TV's Monitor output, then it's the TV set's Micro doing the Video changes.....yeah a TV can go bad on you....

I noticed the Wireless doesn't seem to use IR transmission for the Video signal, and from what I can surmise, it seems the Remote control uses RF - radio frequencies to transmit commands to the wireless box.....

And TV sets use IR - InfraRed Transmission for it's own remote. So it's nearly impossible for the remotes to be causing the problem.....

BUT.....if you have the Wireless sitting right on top of the TV set, the RF signal could be messing up the micro's data bus, sending false commands that are interpreted as you pushing the TV/Video button (aka the INPUT button)....
OR Vice Versa.....

Separate the box from the TV set by 6 to 12 inches if you can...More distance is better.
Then see if the problem disappears......

Try moving your transmitter away from that tv, either behind or as far as your RCA cables allows you to. Otherwise, return it.
Good Luck!
