I say it would be far more responsible to put the quote in it's original context instead of taking it out of context and distorting it.
When accurately presented it has a completely different meaning...
“The common enemy of humanity is man. In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. In their totality and in their interactions, these phenomena do constitute a common threat which demands a solidarity of all peoples. But in designating them as the enemy we fall into the trap of…mistaking the symptoms for causes. All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changes attitudes and behaviour that they can be overcome…The real enemy is humanity itself."

I prefer scientific facts to political garbage, So I prefer these quotes. First that noted enemy of humanity, Newt Gingrich:
"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives Tuesday to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"
Then, a radical environmentalist if ever there was one:
"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."
Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart
And that noted stupid man, easily led around like a sheep, Stephen Hawking:
"Climate change may kill off the Amazon and other rain forests, and so eliminate one of the main ways in which carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere."
And, finally this, the bottom line:
"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics. Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."
Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

Where to find this quote and context for it??
Walt Kelly in a Pogo cartoon strip long ago said it best I think: "We have met the Enemy, and he is us."
If this quote stands the test of veracity, and if this group is part to those pushing draconian measures to "prevent" Global Warming regardless of consequences...it would be very telling.
Also if the proposed solution was to eliminate humanity, especially selectively. it would really tie into the conspiracy theory. But how to verify it?
And I liked that human intervention is the source of dangers. What dangers can we expect from the intervention of politicians and scientists who slant the data?
I think we should be ready to snap up all the new land that will be uncovered, and mine the new minerals, and plant the pristine soils for big crops to sell the the rest of the world...for a while what you grow could be sold as "organic" even!!
Assuming "Global Warming" melts off the ice for real.
I will say this tho: Ever since my Senator announced he was going to pass legislation to keep the glaciers, we have had chilly weather...must be a connection!!

In my opinion, we are our worst enemy. The biggest culprit we face is GREED. We've used the environment and natural resources mainly to obtain corporate profit with total disregard to the impact it would have on society as a whole. Thus, the general public is left in the dark until it is much to late and absolutely obvious to the world that we have a very serious situation. However, I believe in the Creator and someway and in perfect timing I don't believe the All Powerful Source will not allow man to destroy our earth.

Hey, I say I'm tired of this debate.
If you don't believe in gw, fine. I do, despite the quote. And it's not like I don't have an argument. Feel free to check out my previous answers on the subject - or don't.
Rather than wasting my time debating, I'm going off to see what I can do in my home and community to reduce the threat of man-made global warming.
I have finally decided that debating this issue any longer is a complete waste of time. It's time for those of us who do believe in gw to DO something and leave the naysayers to their naysaying. People will find whatever quotes and data they need to back up what they already feel. Unfortunatly, YA doesn't really seem to provide a forum for ideas on the political and environmental front where people can consider each others views.
It has become largly a forum for people to say, "hey [other camp], this is why me and my camp are right.
So believe what you want to. It's your constitutional right.

Considering that over 30 years ago, the Club of Rome commissioned a comprehensive analysis of our civilization and the planet's carrying capacity, and determined that we're headed for a fall as a civilization, it's a little narrow to point to this one passage and insinuate that the whole GW thing is a conspiracy.
