I am probably one of the best people to give you advice on long healthy hair. I have long straight waist length hair. It's all mine from the root down to the last split end (lol) and i do chemically relax and color my hair. First you have to eat healthy and drink lots of water. If you hair is long enough wear it in a bun for the time being. It's keeps it from being over exposed to the elements. Second wash, deep condition and air dry your hair twice per week. At night wrap your hair in a silk scarf before you go to bed. Sleeping on satin pillow cases will also help to reduce breakage.

All of the people on this page have some good points!
BUT . . .
First you need to meet with a LICENSED COSMETOLOGIST who has a reputation for growing hair! Have a hair and scalp assessment. You may very well need to get your hair cut FIRST! Remember you can't grow good hair on top of bad hair!
Change your diet! Remove greasy foods (especially fast foods), caffene and drink your 8 glasses of water each day! When you go to the doctor, have him or her to reccomend a good daily vitamin. This will replace the vitamins and minerals that your body is deficent in.
Try to use rollers instead of heat! Regardless if you use a thermal protector or not, hot curlers, flat irons, etc. on a daily basis will damage your hair and lead to breakage.
Hold off on the frequency of chemical services. (i.e. Sodium Hydroxide Relaxers, colorings, etc.) When you do get a relaxer or color, have your ends trimmed! Deep conditioners and scalp massages are a must!
Follow this and the advice of your stylist, you will have hair down your back in no time.

well, hair is hair essentially. I am a white female. Proteins (amino acids) and a good healthy diet along with a multi- vitamin should do the trick for you in no time. Hope that helps.

Eat healthy foods with lots of protein and use a good shampoo and conditioner. Taking vitamins can help, too.
