know what Christians are?

i've heard more prejudice comments about Christians on yahoo answers than anywhere i've ever been!!

from my own experience, i can say that i became a Christian after going through an inner transformation when i accepted Jesus into my heart. i guess an atheist can't know what that is like until it happens to them!!

i really hope it does happen to them someday! God bless!

i understand that many, many atheists have tried to understand Christianity, but there are pretty strange comments from some people that seems like they've never met a Christian before. pretty sad.

captain atheism, i UNDERSTAND what you are saying. i understand what EVERYONE is saying, whether they agree with me or not.

i am just trying to get a view of why people say some of the things they do. i've also read some snobbish questions to atheists from Chirstians. if all want to understand each other, i think we can show more respect.

i appreciate ALL answers.

i wasn't really trying to make a broad generalization. i just mean for those who are extremely sarcastic toward Christians.

I agree...
Im a christian (baptist) and i see all the time where christians are commented on, but i also see where people who profess to be christians also say a lot of things about other religions, atheist, etc. Every group has person/s that being negativity toward that group, but it doesn't mean that group is bad or below any other persons beliefs. I agree with you though =)

God Bless

Not everyone is Christian and it seems to be a Christian Standard Answer that what they say is right because their religion is the only true one. So people tend to get offended and they will try to get Christians to see where they are coming from posting snide questions. I am a Pagan and I am very tired of hearing how bad Pagans are, when most of our detractors tend to be loving and peaceful Christians. If there is not room on this planet for non-Christians and atheists, then what would you suggest we do?

I think that bad Christians, non-Christians and atheists are a minority, but they do a majority of the damage to our belief system. (Note! Atheists do have a belief system, but it isn't a theological one.)

I for one would love to see the sniping stop, but stating how I feel is just one opinion among many!

Honey, I had a experience when I was 18 years old and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. I spent 25 years living a good Christian life and as soon as I really needed the Christ I had lived my life for for so long, he wasn't there for me. So guess what, an atheist does know what that is like. You seem like a very young individual, and you've got alot of maturing to do. I respect your faith in Christ, but just because you have this all assured feeling that you are sooooo going to Heaven, doesn't mean that you know everything.

It doesn't look like the atheists can answer a real question. But I'll answer it for them. Atheists do not know what Christianity is. They call themselves scientific, but do not research Christianity at all know what it claims or professes. The athiets, especially here on R&S, only want to bash Christians, Christianity and God. They claim to be tolerant, but act in ways that are anything but tolerant or civilized. They lack even the basic and fundamental knowledge of Christianity to have any meaningful conversation, but claim to be logical reasoners that use science as the basis of understanding. But in reality all their arguments are based on imagination, false logic, misunderstands, and hear say. They are hippocrites in all that they say, every word is slanderous, and they are both blind and deaf to the truth. The truth is not in them.

I don't think they TRULY know what a Christian is. If they did then they wouldn't put it down. Some might say that they were once "Christian" but if they had truly let the Holy Spirit fill them the way He has filled me, then they would never have turned away. Something like this you just can't let go of once you really have it. Jesus is just too precious.

I know what you mean... Most Atheists seem to think that all Christians are conservative, red-neck, banjo-pucking, Bible thumping, abortion clinic-bombing, homophobic, delusional nutjobs who run around sacrificing kittens and squirrels to a magical spirit in the sky. They don't take the time to understand what our religion is about. They claim that they read books about Christianity.. They read the Bible, but skew what it's saying and point out errors to try to make us doubt our faith. Or they read books about Christianity that are written by Atheists. Reading those sort of books will only reinforce their already negative beliefs about Christians. My mom read books about Jehova's Witnesses and Mormons, but they were written by Christian pastors who filled the books with their negative beliefs of the two religions, so of course she thinks Mormons and JW's are evil. She doesn't know about the religion from a Mormon's or JW's point of view.

Some atheists do seem to TRUELY want to understand what a different religion is about, and read materials from several points of view. They don't flat-out hate Christians for their beliefs no matter what, they don't tease us and call us stupid or crazy... they just don't agree with Christianity. That's fine, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. But you don't have to be rude about it.

On any Internet forum it's far to easy for the ignorant and uninformed to spout off. Don't judge any group based on what some self identified members of that group say in an unregulated venue such as Yahoo answers.
I cringe anytime someone who identifies with any group I belong to demonstrates their stupidity publicly. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

It does seem like a lot of atheists who are so annoyed with Christians have really strange views about what the Bible says, who God is, and what we believe.

i had what i thought was a religious experience but i was later able to explain it as being an epiphany. A normal thing, where I learned a piece of a puzzle that made many things beneath it clear, it opened my eyes and seemed to change my world view. But this and enlightenment are real words, with real life meanings, it is not some mystical quest but something much more simple.

I know not all Christians are the same but, look at your question. You, too, are making a broad generalization. I've had that feeling of 'letting Jesus into my heart' and I've come across others who've had it, too. Thankfully, reason was still able to get through. I had a wonderful feeling of 'seeing the light' when I finally admitted to myself that the Bible was, in fact, inaccurate.
I've seen all kinds of Christians and all kinds of non-believers. If you go by emotion alone, don't expect others to assume you're reasonable.
