Due to the fact that these
Christians use the Protestant Old Testament which is lacking 7 entire books 2 (Tobias, Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus/Sirach, Baruch, I Maccabees, and II Maccabees), 3 chapters of Daniel and 6 chapters of Esther may be one of the reasons they ask catholics so many questions.
For the Sola Scriptura this is too bad .
In the 16th c., Luther removed those books from the canon that lent support to orthodox doctrine, relegating them to an appendix. Removed in this way were books that supported such things as:
prayers for the dead (Tobit 12:12; 2 Maccabees 12:39-45),
Purgatory (Wisdom 3:1-7),
intercession of dead saints (2 Maccabees 15:14),
and intercession of angels as intermediaries (Tobit 12:12-15).
The lesson, though, is this: relying on the "Bible alone" is a bad idea; we are not to rely solely on Sacred Scripture to understand Christ's message. While Scripture is "given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16-17), it is not sufficient for reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness. It is the Church that is the "pillar and ground of Truth" (1 Timothy 3:15)! Jesus did not come to write a book; He came to redeem us, and He founded a Sacramental Church through His apostles to show us the way. It is to them, to the Church Fathers, to the Sacred Deposit of Faith, to the living Church that is guided by the Holy Spirit, and to Scripture that we must prayerfully look.

There are translations that are "easier" to read than others. The Bible was not written to be confusing. The King James Version is actually been rated at a 6th grade reading level based on the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Indicator. The NIV versions, which claims to be easier to read is at an 8th grade reading level overall.
If you study the Bible, you will understand it. Paul said of Timothy, "From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures . . ." (II Timothy 3:15). If a child can understand it, can’t you?
Further, if you say that you cannot understand it, you are charging God with requiring of you more than you are able to perform, for we read, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (II Timothy 2:15). We urge you to follow the example of the Bereans: "These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11).
The key to it is to study. Bible dictionaries and commentaries are a big help too.

You should make sure you have a modern translation that is easy to understand. I prefer New Revised Standard Version or the New American Standard version. Then you should get involved in a Bible Study at your church, which hopefully is led by someone with some training...It's important to remember that the Bible was written by various people, over various periods of times, and in particular social and cultural contexts. So sometimes to understand what the writer was trying to say, we have to understand more about the time they were writing. If I were you, I would stick to the New Testament, especially the Gospels for now, or the Psalms.

Agreed yo it all comes down to it not being "gods" word and instead actually someone 400years after the death of his son jesus who thought that's what god would have said if he in fact exsisted. Religion and beliefs are meant to be you own interpretation and if you want a bible that speaks more slang and street talk try a local teen bible store. Yo

If you are saved you have access to the Holy Spirit...just ask him to reveal it to u. Take small bites (one verse at a time) and injest them and reap the revelations. You don't have to interpret anything, the Holy Spirit is appointed as your counselor and will give u revelation and directon to all truth. If u have access to the internet then u can go to www.blueletterbible.org for all the different versions of the Bible. If u don't understand the meaning of the words there are concordances which give the Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) true meanings. There is also www.websters.com to lookup words
Lord I pray for a real thirst for your word, and grant her wisdom thru revelation from the Holy Spirit. In Jesus name I pray, Amen
God bless U,
Daniel

You must be "reborn" that is to forget everything you ever knew, been taught, or think you knew about the Word of God.
First, not all of the bible is the inspired Word of God, Do not believe the teaching or actions of Moses or the Prophets, do not believe in the teachings or writings of anyone's books including Peter or Paul.
If you have any questions ask God the Father, or me
Believe in only the 4 Gospels, the Words spoken by Jesus, only.

You keep on reading and allow the Holy Spirit to teach you. One verse may not make sense but when you become familiar with the whole Bible you will see that all of the parts fit. You also ask others to help you understand.

This is one of the reasons Jesus established the Catholic Church -- to teach what the Scriptures really mean.
"So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and asked, 'Do you understand what you are reading?' And he said, 'How can I, unless some one guides me?' And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him." -- Acts 8:30-31
"First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." -- 2Peter 1:20-21

It's like going to school. When you were in first grade if you stuck your head in a 6th grade class you were totally confused at what was on the black board. So you just read here and there, don't try to figure it out, just let what comes ring a few bells in their own time. You will get whatever you need to at just the right time and progress as you should. Don't try to force learning, let the Holy Spirit do its work.
