It seems he cares. You mite be better off fining out in what way: as a friend, sister image, poss-able lover: with feelings for you in any of these ways he would miss you when your not around. He also may have said this to see how you respond to him.

This one time I ate onion loaf, my boyfriend liked me alot. Then he told me see you later. Maybe my breath got to him. Then I called him later that night and he said he missed me. I think he liked me.
