If I would graduate West Point, go into the 82nd Airborne Division and then become a Ranger (hypothetically) would I carry as much or more honor and respect than going to the Naval Academy and becoming a Marine. If I am looking for a branch to be proud of and will help me in my civilian life afterwards or as an FBI HRT, which would be better for me, the Rangers or the Marines? Sua Sponte and Semper Fidelis.

Thank you so much! God Bless the United States Marine Corps, the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and all the allied fighting forces striving to free our world from terror.

Well both are very excellent jobs to be proud of and you would do your country a great service by choosing either one.
Marines are all basic infantry men with job attached to them according to a predetermined need or job skill (of witch you have no choice). So any one off of the street can go to boot camp and come home 3 months later yelling that they are a MARINE! Rangers are soldiers that have already became indoctrinated into the Army as well as their respective core (job). Then they must volunteer to try out for the chance to go to Ranger school. Then you must get in survive, graduate then attend Airborne school. Then and only then can you be put on a list to get assigned to a Regiment. Once you have been assigned to a team and have gotten your feet wet (in combat) then and only then can you call yourself a Ranger. I spent 5 years on a Ranger LRS team, and loved every minute of it. If you are serious about a carrier in the service then you want to be a Ranger. Promotions, schools and best training and gear goes to us, not the Marines. Storming the beach head is a thing of the past. Direct insertion and precise mission objectives are now how we fight.

It breaks down to this question were do you want your carrier to go? In my 5 short years, as a Ranger, I have multiple shrapnel wounds, 2 bullet holes, a blown out eardrum, 3 ruptured disks, bad knee, bad shoulder and nightmares at the age of 26. My girlfriend’s dad retired (with over 20 years of service) from the Marines with little more then carpel tunnel. The only real difference that we have is that he regrets something’s about his service and I don’t.

I say forget the titles and HO-BALH that goes with it and look into the quality of life that each provides. If you have a wife (or a serious lady) then talk with her about what kind of life she would like to experience. Either one that you decide I know your family and country will be proud. Hope this Helps.

Rangers… lead the way!

Ranger: All Marines are Basically Trained Infantrymen...hence the 13 weeks of Basic...an Army Infantryman goes through the same course 13 weeks of Basic...only thing is that all Marines are Riflemen first...Ranger School is a three month long course...it is very hard...(You do not have to be but almost all Rangers are Airborne Qualified also...how many Marines are?) many Marines go through Ranger School...who cares about the Uniform, if you join a service because of the uniform, you are joining for the wrong reason...having that Ranger Tab on your shoulder proves you are one tough man...Rangers Lead the Way!

I was a Marine so I am of course biased. However I have a friend who was a Ranger and we have talked about which was better. The one thing that he really said he wished the Rangers had was the camaraderie that the Marine Corps units have. We also agreed that is one of the most important things too. Both are honorable but I am glad I was a Marine above all else.

Sorry HOLBROOK but I don't think 13 weeks of basic with weekends off qualifies as bootcamp. Yes every Marine is a rifleman first but then you have Force Recon like Navy Seals and F.A.S.T. Company (Fleet Anti-Terrrorst Support Team). There are more jump qualified Marines then you think. HOLBROOK is right on if you are joining for the uniform you are joining for the wrong reason, even though the Marine Dress Blues are the lady slayer.

I would do some research on people that hold the positions that you wish to hold in the future. Find out what area of the armed forces they chose. I think you will be respected either way you go!! Just work hard and become friends with the right people!!! Networking is the key!

I wanted to be a Marine because of their work ethic; Marines have the longest training/boot camp out of all the Armed Forces. ooooorayyyy!!!!

Rangers are boy scouts compared to marines. Besides Navy always beats Army.

You can be just as proud to be a RANGER as a marine, marines man for man are no better than a Ranger. BOTH are equally as good and specialist in their own area. to become a Ranger is no less a feat than becoming a Marine, which is why Pat Tillman became one.

ONCE A RANGER ALWAYS A RANGER
