Why are there so many different churches?
People treat religion as à la carte . Pick some of this, a little of that, none of the other. They go to churches which believe as they want to believe. So if a person is pro war, they go to a pro war church. Anti gay - an anti gay church.
If there is a god, and I very much doubt it, then it is table d'hôte. You accept everything or nothing. But people do not want that.

This is a simple question if you understand the basics of Two Kingdom theology, which is very biblical.
In short, Two Kingdom theology states that God has sovereignty & works both in His left-hand secular Kingdom & His right-hand heavenly Kingdom, but in two *different* ways: In His left-hand Kingdom it is through the civil government to keep law & order by the sword. This occurs inside of a country via police officers, jailers, legislators, judges, etc. etc. & outside the country to protect the country via military & in certain cases war, etc. But God also has sovereignty & works in His right-hand Kingdom, the Church to distribute His grace & mercy via His Word & Sacrament. This occurs when the Church preaches Law & Gospel along with acts of relief, kindness & mercy to others.
No one can deny, that a Christian is a citizen of both the left-hand & right-hand Kingdoms. They can't stop being a citizen of a country because they are a citizen of the Church, otherwise all Christians would have to become monks & nuns of sorts. And they don't have to stop being a citizen of the Church because they are a citizen of a country. How do they reconcile the *seeming* contradictions of what each one demands? Simple it's not a contradiction. If God works in both Kingdoms in two different ways, so do Christians.
It is true that God hates unjust war. But Christians are free to engage in just wars; to fight for the ideals of their country which *ultimately* protect human rights (see Ten Commandments, Exodus 2). They do this as part of their citizenship of a country working in God's left-hand Kingdom to protect the civilians of his country (and perhaps others) from the unjust attacks of those outside the country. At the same time, as citizens of the right-hand kingdom, they are freed to grant grace & mercy to others in word, thought & deed because of the grace & mercy God has given to them as sinners, by telling about God's Law (the bad news) & Gospel (the good news) & doing good deeds for their neighbor.
I think the articles at the link below will help you to understand this theology of Two Kingdoms better; as it applies to different aspects of people's lives:

As most wars throughout history use the church or religion as an excuse, I don't think you should be wondering about the church and war. Even GWB stoops to using religion in his quest to dominate any other country.

I'm atheist, but I'm pretty sure in your fairy tale book aka the bible, god sends people to war....see this is why i don't believe in that crap b/c the book runs in circles. In one instance it says to turn the other cheek, then it says to go slaughter an entire country of innocent (non believers)...stupid book
