Sure is, although Bibles are pretty expensive nowadays.

As, I believe, Albert Einstein said, ... Education is what you have after you have forgotten everything they taught you in school. School, including college, is where they teach the masses to work for somebody else; that somebody else being the system.

I may be off a little on the quote, as I am doing a recall on reading from 50 years ago. If the intent is off, I will try and correct it today.

Why is getting a formal education sad? I dont see the connection to John 5:39 either.

That is just SO true! When I think of the time Ernest Gallo spent figuring out how to make wine when all he had to do was go poof! (like Jesus in Cana). And just think ... a couple of hundred people, each armed with 5 fish and 5 loaves of bread, could feed the whole African continent! And these bleeding-heart liberals can learn something about medical care. I mean, who needs expensive health plans, or doctors, when all you need is faith to be cured? Amen sister, I have seen the light ... and it's not electric.

Yes, the Word of God is important, but that doesnt mean we ought to neglect our studies or forsake worldly knowledge.

Read the Bible and you'll realise there are people from Old or New Testament that are well versed in the marketplace knowledge, and were able to better preach the gospel.

Tbe the salt and light, could you do that by being irrevelant to the society ? surely not. as a christian, you ought to be relevant just as people like Joseph, Daniel, Esther and Paul did.

yes, i do know of people who were a success without any education but only read the Bible, but how often do you hear of such people? i did, only once. im not saying the Bible is not important, do not get me wrong, im saying you ought to grow not just spiritually, but stay revelant in the world as well.

in this world, yet not of this world. since you're in this world, you're not going to just wait for the Day to come, but make yourself more relevant and credible, thus making your successful life a testimony, and yet on fire for the Lord. that is a christian!

Hey I'm all for the bible. But...

Don't you think that's a little pretencious that with all the knowledge that man has to offer...one book is the only answer?

Do you mean to say that libraries are useless and people should just read the same bible over and over again?

Other books, should just be burned, according to you then, right?

I agree with uncle meat. I have been going to college for two terms and in that period of time have learned far more than the bible ever taught me for the full 16-17 years I was Christian.

Do you prefer not to think for yourself? Maybe if you were educated you would open your mind a little. The bible can't even teach you how to survive in the jungle by yourself. Actually, I prefer you not to have an education, if you even had a clue.. you would be a dangerous person.

Like other blessings God has given us, the search and acquisition of knowledge is also a blessing. Granted there are potential pitfalls for Christians when pursuing a secular education. However I think it is important to have our faith tested in such arenas. I have a BA and MA from two different secular universities and at both places, my studies have served to increase my faith in God and made me better able to defend that faith.

The Bible is the best source of knowledge, but unfortunately we live in fairly worldly society, so that won't get you a job. The Bible also teaches that we are to be working and not idle so that encompasses going to college so that we can work.

Lack of education is nothing to be particularly proud about. Why shut yourself off from knowledge? Anti-intellectualism is just depressing.

Would you let a doctor who had never gone to college and only read the bible operate on you? Think about it.
