Bacteria, actually. Think about it: your armpits are nice and warm, as well as dark and damp. That's like bacterial Disneyland. Don't be too grossed out, it's perfectly normal. It's just another reason that you should bathe daily.

The armpits contain a specialized type of sweat gland called an apocrine gland. Apocrine glands are scent glands. They secrete fats, oils, and salts that cause microbes to grow. The smell comes from the microbes.

body odor is caused by bacteria on the surface of the skin--perspiration is odorless. so different kinds/amounts of bacteria account for different odor.
