Because young-earth creationism is a joke, it attracts other jokes. Young-earth creationists claim that we cannot know about evolution because we cannot observe it, yet claim to know about the creation and the flood in detail. They claim that it is crucial to interpret the Scriptures in context, yet they snatch quotes from scientists out of context to make it sound like the scientists in question are identifying major problems with evolution. Jesus warned against hypocrisy - clearly creationists don't take such warnings of Jesus literally or even seriously, or they wouldn't make the claims that they do.

Many have very strong beliefs so you just have to be careful of what you say. Some may take it as a joke others wont. It's as simple as that.
