Yes, alcohol does contribute to more auto deaths.
On the other hand...
My significant others dad has been smoking weed for over 30 years now. The guy can barely remember what he did 2 hours ago let alone yesterday. At dinner he will ask me the same question 3 times. My friends that smoke pot can't get their lazy butts off the couch to go see a movie or enjoy the sunshine. Bleh!
Another reason not to smoke is if your job drug tests you than you are going to get fired or not hired.

Added: I think that pot does have medical merit. I've seen a friends mom be able to eat again since her chemo was making her too sick, my brother was not doing very well emotionally after he got back from Iraq and psych drugs didn't help, but pot did and I've had friends that were HIV positive and smoking pot helped them be able to eat again.

I don't care if someone is dumb and kills themselves by smoking too much marijuana (lung cancer is much more likely with weed than cigarettes, because smoking one thing of weed is like inhaling 3 or more sticks of tabacco) or kills themselves by drinking to much alcohol (poisioning or liver damage), but I DO care about if someone kills OTHERS because of this irresponsible behavior...ie driving while under the influence. My friends who do weed seem to ALWAYS drive after smoking and even sometimes smoke while driving... they think that just because they are going slow they have good reflexes... they don't! My friends who drink alcohol seem to understand their limits under the influence a little better. If weed were legal, I think there would be an even bigger problem with people driving while under the influence of weed and causing accidents than people driving under the influence of alcohol. But, thankfully, we will probably never know if my hypothesis is true, because weed will probably never be legal.

Also, you cannot say that I just haven't ever tried weed, and that is why I'm so against it... because I have tried it... about once a week for about 3 months.. and I noticed that I totally SUCK when I am on it, even when I am sober. It completely changed my outlook and drive in life...and I've noticed it doing the same thing to some of my friends. I hope for that reason alone weed stays illegal; it ruins people.

It's hard to get killed sitting on your couch watching Spongebob and mowing down a bag of Doritos. That's why there are so few weed related accidents.

Government control.... Alcohol is taxed and controlled by the government, Weed is not.

As an ex-mechanic I observed smokers wear out their brakes, while drinkers wear out their fenders....

Your absolutely right. I haven't heard anything about someone smoking Mary Jane killing anyone or doing any kind of bodily harm of some kind while on this. It should be as legal as cigarettes. There isn't a big deal, there isn't enough supporters for this herb to make it legal.

alcohol is legal, that is a big part of why the accidents and deaths are far greater. I dont know much about weed but im sure it alters your state of mind plenty.

The reason "weed" causes less deaths is because less people do it.
It also is hard to diagnose those deaths caused by weed because they are the same as normal smoking, except slightly worse because marijuana causes the immune system to stop working, so you can't even tell when it's causing damage.
Marijuana is worse.
