My girlfriend an I will be traveling to Europe in about a month. When we go to see the Eiffel tower I plan on asking her to marry me. I m worried about getting the ring onto the plane safely and securely. Also without her knowing it what so ever. Can anybody who has done this help?

Unless it is some sort of cheap metal it's not going to go off by a metal detector.

An engagement ring is not going to set off airport security. People have rings on their fingers and they don't set off the alarms. You can just put it in your pocket, but going to europe, you'll probably lose it to a pick-pocket--no joke, it is a major problem, so be forewarned. A wiser thing would be to put it in a carry-on bag or suitcase--just don't let the bag out of your sight. By the way, the Eiffel Tower is beautiful at night--and there are fireworks late at night as well, so check into the schedule and ask her then! Good luck.

My now mother-in-law carried my engagement ring in her carry-on when we went to Mexico. She had no problems getting it through security and I was right by her the whole time.
Yep, my hubby proposed while we were snorkeling...perfect as I LOVE the water and anything to do with swimming is a passion for me. I cried and kissed him so much we almost fell of the rock we were standing on!!

Put in your carry-on bag. the ring is not made of a conductive metal and will not set off the alarm. A better suggestion, though, is to ship it, using a reputable service, directly to the hotel. Call ahead, once you have arranged the shipping (and insured it!), to the hotel and tell them to put it in their safe - this way you won't have to worry about loss or theft (this is the airline we're talking about!)

How sweet!! awwwwwww lucky girl. Your best bet is to call ahead to let the airline know that you need to get a ring onto the plane safely and decreetly. They will be able to tell you how to do this.

Well I walk through with my rings, and no alarms go off. If you dont want to carry it on yourself, put it in your carry-on piece. They dont comment about whats inside, unless you have other questionables in which case youll have to take everything out of the bag. So dont pack anything like scissors in your carry-on.

I don't think it'll be a problem. Put it in your carry-on. I've flown several times since 9/11 wearing my wedding and engagement rings even, and I've never been asked to remove them. My other jewelry was in my carry-on and they never cared.

Just my experience.

Put in in your carry on and when it goes through the x-ray it'll be fine, plus she wont notice it since you dont see the x-ray screens. Or else put it in your pocket not in the box and put it in the tray when you pass through security. If she goes through first you can pick it back up before she notices.

Congratulations!

first- put it in your checked baggage they dont screen that in front of you. second- keep it in a bag you will carry on- but pass it through the screening machine *(not on your person as you walk through the metal detector). the screener for the carry on baggage only identifies shapes and liquids.. they will not care that it is 'metal'.. noone will say anything and you wont have to worry about it being lost. *i put my regular jewelry in my carry on whenever i go on vacation and noone has ever questioned it! good luck.. and congrats :)

Store it in your carry on bag. No problem.
