Many people are telling me that it is not time to update to vista. Should I wait?

Vista on a NEW machine is probably OK, but make sure there are Vista drivers for your Printer, Scanner, Camera, etc. FIRST. These are what cause most migration problems. Not all applications work in Vista either.
Upgrading to Vista is not a good idea YET, wait until all the manufacturer's have Vista versions in place.

I chose to wait. I am hearing still of too many bugs that need to be shaken out. The users I know are not happy.
I am also not happy with Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 - I switched to Firefox because IE 7 is so messed up.

In my opinion, NO. Vista is for fast computers and even then it suck power. best to wait unless your computer came with it alread on.
