Well. I would not want him to hand around a drug abuser.. Atheist are not exempt from doing drugs.. So that is an unfair question. I wouldn't mind my child hanging around an atheist just as long as he wasn't trying to ram his beliefs down it's throat as Christians do either. This question is bias and has just just about as much truth to it as the question " Wouldn't the world be a better place if everybody were Christian". If you are going to make points.. Make them valid. DOn't stoop to this level by being bias.

I have seen drug abuse and the pain it can cause.
Because I have no problem being around Atheist in the first place, I would prefer that my child's best friend be an Atheist if all other things were equal.
******NEWS FLASH*****
Christians do not hate Atheist..
Peace!

You're going to hear alot of "a real Christian wouldn't abuse drugs" answers here. We all know that's not true. Christians aren't invincible, we struggle with temptation, too.
I wouldn't care if my kids had friends who were atheists. I would, however, be concerned about their safety if they were hanging out with drug users of ANY religion.

A drug abuser isn't living a Christian lifestyle, so I'll say that so long as the atheist isn't leading my child astray - I'll take the atheist.
I'm a Christian. My children have atheist friends, as do I.

A drug abusing Christian is probably easier to help realize his error and change. There is therapy and help available for drug-addiction.
An atheist is a difficult person to teach about God. Some won't change until they see God face to face, but by then it will be too late. Ignorance is a harder condition to treat.

I would hope my child wouldn't be involved with drug abusers, whether they were christians or not. And since my child is not an atheist, I wouldn't think he (or she) would cultivate a friendship with an atheist.

"Love is all that I can give to you ...
Take my heart and please don't break it"
Both ... well, I don't have kids, but as a daughter, I wouldn't mind being friends with both. However, it's sad to watch people suffer, and both of these people are suffering.
God always has a plan, so maybe he wants to shine through me, so that's why he brought them into my life ... IDK, maybe yes ... maybe no.
