You have to be past puberty... so you would know what you're doing. (this is for Hajj Wajeb)

For Hajj Umrah... anytime... it doesn't matter...

EDIT:

To FEZ:
It would be tragic... specially in this day and age... when Mekka gets crowded for Hajj Wajib...
My mom took my brother to Haj... but that was 30 years ago...
She says that back then... it wasn't as crowded... n that my brother was able to run around... and play... without my mom being worried where he's going...
BUT nowadays... ooof... so crowded that people suffocate while doing their A'maal...

EDIT EDIT:
Hajj basically means visiting the house of God...
Hajj Umrah can be done all round the year... and it is not mandatory for every Muslim...
Hajj Wajib can be done ONLY during one specific time of the year... and it is mandatory for every Muslim... except if they don't have the money or aren't healthy enough...

I agree with Samantha and Nunya but I don't think it would be tragic for them to go at a young age. They would just need to do it again when they are older. I know ppl whose family took them as little children so they didn't have to leave them with anyone and then they went again when they were older.

EDIT:Samantha, that is true. I have often talked with my husband about this. He said that in his country they only go once but now ppl all over the world have so much money and travel is easier that they go more than once. I told him there needs to be a new quota system...you can only go once every ten years or something...I don't think they can really tell you that you can only go once in your life. Plus, how would you relly keep up with it. Even if you seperated ppl by country or nationality...there are so many ppl with dual citizenship and stuff...That is one planning nightmare (with much reward of course). I decided to ask a question about this here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApkJyxJ5_782mMox1PjHaHzsy6IX?qid=20070612125452AAEVarr

Samantha is the only one who is right, You have to be past puberty, well aware of what is right and what is wrong. Go to your local masjid and ask the Imam there and just to make absolutely sure. It would be tragic if a child went and he/ was too young for it to count.

I would presume you need only be old enough to make the journey AND understand its importance. What I mean is that simply going there is insufficient if you don't know what it means.
