thank you for your answers in such a short period of time. some are excellent I'm surprised by the ones who felt attacked.if I hadn't posted the definition(not mine) I wouldn't know that some atheists follow the Q&A because religious activity affects non-believers

Arguably atheists DO care about the field of interest. Arguing against something is still demonstrating an interest in it. And for the most part, most of the religious people here are guilty of the latter two as well. So based on your definition, pretty much everyone here is a troll. So long as they keep the direct insults to a minimum and keep clean, I don't have a problem with them. They disagree with my beliefs. Fine. A little debate never hurt anyone. Jesus did it, so why not me?

Once again, Actually we have a lot in stake in the religion field as christian continue to make laws that reflect only what they want. We actually do learn a lot and most atheist no more about the bible then the religious. Take a look at the belittle and inflaming the Christians do, it is not one sided. You, have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and should take a look around and learn something before you go making unfounded accusations.

I haven't seen particularly elevated discourse from either side, frankly. Everybody posts a question they already (think they) know the answer to--like yours, for example!

It's not like people are posting questions like, "Why has Benedict decided to move away from John Paul's instruction on X topic? Based on my reading of [book of the Bible here], I am having a hard time deciding how I feel about this and wonder what others think."

I would characterize R&S "lively and entertaining" more than serious discourse. We all share opinions and sometimes people do have interesting things to say. I disagree with your assumption that atheists are here because they have no sincere interest.

That is the role of the fundamentalists too.

This section is for a dialogue and understanding of religion and spirituality...not just the fundamentalist views of such.

However, the fundamentalists care nothing about 1)the field of interests of others.2) the fundamentalists have no intention of learning anything pertaining to other religions/beliefs3) Their function is to belittle and drop inflammatory remarks and then run.

Look at the number of fundies that do not allow e-mail contact...they drop a few inflammatory words, a few regurgitated, memorzied scriptures, and then refuse to have dialogue...they are the trolls.

i think atheists have gone about their mission in a horrible way. both atheists and Christians are in the same state of mind where they both think the have found the ultimate answer (with the smallest, most useless pile of information humans have collected in their history) and are trying to get each other to see the light. The intentions of them are both good, its seems like they want to help. Sometimes Christians come off as arrogant cultists, but atheists are no better. If that's the definition of a troll, I think the majority of atheists represented on the Internet fall into this misinformed category.

What do you mean by "in the religion" section?

The questions in this sub-section appear on the Home page, and on the Society & Culture page.

I have seen a lot of questions posed to atheists in this category.

If I'm asked a question, I'll answer it.

If someone asks a question I have something to say to, I'll do so.

I'm not here to belittle or inflame.

Uh, I guess you've never noticed all the belittling of atheists in this category -- why IS that?

I am NOT a troll.

Over-generalize much?

This is a forum on religion, not a screen for non-religious people. Here you get everyone's 2 cents. It's pretty obvious when it's usually some nose picking kid who has nothing to contribute. I am a theist but it think that some input by atheists is a noce counter the whole Christianity is the only way movement. They usually seem smarter too.

If you frequent this forum enough, you'll find that there are far more Christians displaying trollish behavior than atheists. Besides--atheists have as much right as anyone else to ask, answer, or comment on things of a religious or spiritual nature. One doesn't have to be a follower of a belief to have knowledge or opinions of it.

I disagree. People are dying every day due to religion, which makes it a hot debate topic. I totally disagree with the laziness of Creationism, hence another topic I will openly debate. There are actually a few of us here that can debate the topics here with a fair and open mind.

Where would you prefer them to be?

In the midst of a lot of the sparring that goes on, there is some real deep spiritually intellectual discourse.

I get a lot out of reading what others think.
