Prevention is better than cure so on the offchance you are talking about if it happens Id say you should have an anti virus running from day one, AVG is free and very good.

You can use windows firewall as well it works well for me.

Always when prompted for updates accept them, this is very important, if you are not prompted update your pc yourself.

You should get in the habit of scanning files before opening them and be careful downloading, good way to get a virus.

If the virus is there scan your computer and see if it can isolate the problem area. If the virus has gone to far then i suggest you have your computer wiped and put on all the programs again.

You should first scan your computer with a virus scan program to verify you have a virus, this will also identify the virus. And you can then get rid of it.
You can find lots of info on the latest viruses at a number od sites:
http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/security_response/threatexplorer/threats.jsp
or
http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?http://www.mcafee.com/anti-virus/default.asp

Some of these have utilities to let you get rid of a specific virus.

You need to do a virus scan--if you dont have an anti-virus program, do a search for AVG anti-virus you can get it free as a download.

It differs. If you actually get a virus (which is somewhat rare), you ought to have a professional take care of it. I've been in this field for years, and it's never fun. If you get a trojan, or other malware, programs such as Mcafee or Windows Defender can help get rid of it.
