Well, in Spanish, the word you use for "I'm" depends on whether what follows it is a permanent state of being or a temporary state of being.....for example:

"I am intelligent." (This is a permanent state of being, so you would use the word "soy." The "yo" is understood and therefore does not have to be included.)..... "Soy inteligente."

On the contrary, if you are referring to a temporary state of being, you use the work "estoy." Again, the "yo" is understood so therefore it can be omitted. For example:

"I am tired." Since this is temporary, you use "estoy."..... Estoy cansado."

Hope that helps.

It really depends on the phrase you're trying to say. There are so many different uses of "I am" in English that mean so many different things. (I'm young. I'm here. I'm going to the mall......etc. These are all totally different expressions on spanish!!!)
